Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. – Cameron Solomon scored 20 of his game-high 32 points in the first half as Southern Wesleyan held off a second half charge from Loyola (La.) to pull out a 76-70 victory in Southern States Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
Solomon – who notched his fifth 30-point game of the season – was 6-of-10 from the floor in the first half but struggled to just 3-of-7 shooting in the second half. The junior guard hit 11-of-13 free throws including all four in the final 20 seconds to ice the game.
The Warriors (9-6, 4-2 SSAC) led the entire game and pushed the margin to 14 late in the first half. A quick 6-0 run by the Wolf Pack made it just an eight point game, 41-33, at halftime.
The theme all night for the Wolf Pack was poor shooting as Loyola made just 39 percent of their shots (22-56) and just 3-of-23 from three point range. They stayed close in the second half by making 16-of-22 from the free throw line. They made 23-of-32 overall in the game.
Loyola kept the game tight throughout as the Warriors never were able to pull away despite shooting 48 percent from the floor. The Wolf Pack cut the Warrior lead to two, 65-63, with 4:07 left in the half. Terrance Hutchins made back-to-back baskets and Jordan Wallace added a free throw to push the lead back to seven and giving the Warriors some breathing room.
Hutchins provided a much needed spark off the bench, scoring 16 points and handing out a game-high five assists. Jordan Wallace added 13 points and Dwayne Bryant had 11 for the Warriors. McCall Tomeny led Loyola with 24 points.
The Warriors will be back in action on Thursday, travelling to Southern Poly State for an 8 p.m. game.
