Men's Basketball Tops Toppers

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Southern Wesleyan led for the final 37 minutes in earning their first road conference win of the season, holding off Blue Mountain 80-77.


The Warriors (5-3, 3-0 SSAC) took the lead at 8-7 with 17:31 left in the first half and never gave it back.  They built a 12 point lead in the first half before BMC (3-4, 1-1 SSAC) cut it back to seven at 41-34 at the break.  It was a similar story in the second half with SWU building the lead into double digits and the Toppers cutting it back to within one with just under two minutes to play.  The Warriors hit 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal it.


Cameron Solomon led all players with 26 points and six rebounds on 7-of-20 shooting.  The junior got to the foul line 14 times, making 10.  Kenny Holmes added 19 points, five rebounds and three assists as Terrance Hutchins scored 13 off the bench.  Dwayne Bryant was also in double digits with 10 points and Mike Lieberman added seven points and 10 rebounds.


The Warriors shot 45-percent while BMC shot 48-percent.  The difference came at the free throw line as SWU made 19-of-27 and the Toppers hit on just 14-of-22.  Shane Butler led BMC with 21 points.
SWU also dominated the glass, pulling in 44 rebounds to just 31 for the Toppers.  The Warriors grabbed 14 of their rebounds on the offensive glass.


The Warriors will round out their weekend at Martin Methodist on Saturday, concluding a stretch of six games in nine days.
