Warriors Withstand Voorhees, Win 98-90

CENTRAL, S.C. – Four players scored in double digits as the Warriors held off Voorhees 98-90 on Monday night to extend their winning streak to three.

Cameron Solomon led SWU (4-2) in scoring with 31 points on 10-of-19 shooting. He made 10-of-16 from the foul line and grabbed eight rebounds. The junior scored 19 of his 31 in the first half as the Warriors built a seven point halftime lead. They led by as much as 12 in the first period.

The Tigers didn't go away in the second half. Voorhees (3-4) embarked on a quick 7-0 run to tie the game at 52-52. The run extended to 12-2 as the Tigers took a three point lead with 16-34 to play. That lead would be short lived as SWU re-took the lead at 62-60 with 14:06 left. They never trailed again.

Kenny Holmes poured in 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds to continue his hot stretch. The sophomore handed out four assists and had four steals. Holmes did a bulk of his work inside the three-point line on this night, getting into the lane and getting to the foul line. At the charity stripe Holmes made 10-of-13. He was 7-of-18 from the floor and made two threes.

Dwayne Bryant just missed double digits in rebounds on Saturday – the first time all season – and responded with a season-high 18 rebounds on Monday. Eight of those came on the offensive end. He added 16 points for his fourth double-double of the season. He also had four steals. Josh Coleman came off the bench to score a career-high 11 points and add eight rebounds, half of which came on the offensive end.

On the night the Warriors were dominant on the glass, pulling down 53 total rebounds to 44 for Voorhees. Both teams had 20 offensive rebounds. Travis Dupree pulled down 17 rebounds for the Tigers to go along with 18 points. Southern Wesleyan shot right at 50-percent on the night (34-68) but made just 27-of-44 from the foul line (61-percent). Voorhees shot 44-percent from the floor and stayed close by making 12-of-35 from beyond the arc. They were just 10-of-24 from the charity stripe.

The Warriors will play their fourth game in six days as they travel to Limestone on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
