CENTRAL, S.C. – Kenny Holmes knocked down six three-pointers as the Warriors won a tight battle, 64-58, over Spring Hill in the Southern States Athletic Conference opener on Friday night.
Holmes hit a three with 56 seconds left to give the Warriors (2-2, 1-0 SSAC) the lead for the seventh and final time. He helped seal the game down the stretch, making three of four from the foul line in the final 13 seconds. Holmes' 26 points were a game-high. He also added two steals and five rebounds.
No team lead by more than seven points in this tightly contested game. The lead changed hands 13 times and was tied on nine different occasions.
The Warriors won despite shooting just 36-percent from the floor while the Badgers (0-3, 0-1 SSAC) shot 40-percent from the floor. SWU made eight three pointers while Spring Hill made five. The Warriors were 16-of-26 from the free throw line while the Badgers made 11-of-19 from the charity stripe. Spring Hill was led by Jarrett Calhoun's 15 points and four assists.
SWU was active on the glass, pulling down 41 total rebounds thanks in large part to Dwayne Bryant who collected 15, five of which came on the offensive glass. Bryant also had four assists and four points. Terrance Hutchins continued to be a spark off the bench with 14 points including a pair of threes. He also had six rebounds and four assists. Cameron Solomon added 10 points in just 18 minutes of action due to foul trouble.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday as they welcome Bethel (Tenn.) to Tysinger for a 5 p.m. tip.
