Darius Carter joined the Warriors as an Assistant Coach in Summer of 2018.
 
For the Warriors, Carter has been instrumental in recruiting, player development, and opponent scouting. Carter also assists with team travel, film breakdown, academic support, practice planning, in addition to serving as the Head Junior Varsity Coach.
 
Carter helped guide the 2019-20 Warriors to be the most improved team in NCAA Division II as they finished the year with a 20-11 record.  During the historic 19-20 season, Southern Wesleyan advanced to the Conference Carolinas post season and eventually went on to win the university's first ever Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship.  Their title earned them a spot in the 2020 NCAA tournament which was later cancelled due to COVID.
 
Under Carter’s mentorship, Demarcus Addie and Clenzo Ross received 1st team All-Conference recognition, Ta'Jay Dunlap received 2nd team All-Conference recognition twice, and Jalen Lowery received 3rd team All-Conference recognition.  Clenzo Ross was also named the Conference Carolinas Tournament MVP in 2020.
 
Prior to joining the Warriors, Carter spent two years at Northern Arizona University where he was the Recruiting Coordinator and Director of Scouting. Carter also earned a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education.
 
As a student athlete, Carter was an outstanding guard at George Washington High School and Hargrave Military Academy before arriving at Tusculum University in the fall of 2011.
 
As a junior in 2013-14, Carter led his team in scoring (16.0 ppg), assists (2.9 apg), and steals (1.4 spg). Carter also had a career high 39 points during this season. 
 
As a senior in 2015-16, Carter was the only player to start all 29 games and ranked first on the team in scoring (17.5), second in assists (3.4 apg), and second in steals (1.3 spg). Carter also led the Pioneers to two wins against teams ranked in the top 15.
 
He was named Team Captain and Team MVP while also earning All-Conference honors his junior and senior seasons.

Carter’s name remains prominent in Tusculum’s record books. In addition to being the school’s all-time leader in free throws made and free throws attempted, he also ranks 12th in scoring (1,338) and 5th in steals (135).
 
Carter graduated from Tusculum University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Sport Management in 2016.
 
Carter is a native of Cascade, Va. Son of the late Chris Carter, former Boy’s Basketball Coach at George Washington High School in Danville, VA. Chris Carter won two state championships 1996 and 1998, as well as being ranked 4th in USA Today National Poll in 1996. Darius’ brother, Devan Carter, is the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Lincoln Memorial University.
