Warriors Claim Senior Day Sweep over Ferrum

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan swept the Ferrum Panthers in their final home series of the season in 8-0 and 5-0 final scores.

The Warriors picked up seven hits in the first game of the doubleheader on Friday afternoon.  Reagan Fulcher led the team by going 2 for 2 at the plate.  Marissa Moreland and Megan Ware each homered in the game, and Fulcher and Rebecca Lamb doubled.  Southern Wesleyan walked four times and Fulcher was hit by a pitch.  Emily Collins started the game in the circle and struck out six batters in the five innings she pitched.

Southern Wesleyan collected eight hits in the second game of the series.  Abby Lawson picked up two hits in the second game.  The Warriors walked five times and stole five bases.  Chalee Roper led the team with three steals in the game.  Marissa Moreland and Megan Ware also stole bases in the game.  Chloe Smith started the second game for the Warriors and struck out five batters in the six innings she pitched.

How It Happened

Game One

The Warriors were first on the board as they brought one run in to score in the bottom of the first inning.  Marissa Moreland led off by reaching on a four pitch walk.  Reagan Fulcher then hit a single through the right side to allow Moreland to advance to third.  Moreland came in to score as Rebecca Lamb hit a sacrifice fly out to right field.

Southern Wesleyan extended their lead in the second inning.  Abby Schriener led off with a walk and then advanced to second as Maddie Crouch laid down a bunt single.  Megan Ware sent the ball over the left field fence for first collegiate home run to extend the Warriors lead to 4-0.

Marissa Moreland drilled the ball over the left field fence to hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the Warriors lead to five.  The Warriors were not done as Reagan Fulcher sent the ball to left center for a double.  Rebecca Lamb followed with a double of her own to bring Fulcher in to score.  Chloe Smith sent the ball down the left field line for a single that brought Lamb in to score.  Olivia Haag walked.  A wild pitch allowed both Smith and Haag to advance a base.  A wild pitch on ball four to Abby Schreiner allowed Smith to come in to score and allow the Warriors to win the game in an 8-0 final.

 

 

Game Two

The Warriors and Panthers battled it out in the circle for the first three and a half innings of the game as Chloe Smith and Chloe Constantino showed out.

Southern Wesleyan got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Olivia Haag led off with a six pitch walk.  Haag then advanced to second as Abby Schreiner ground out to third.  Abby Schreiner hit a single into center field to allow Haag to come in to score on the play.  An error in the outfield allowed Lawson to advance to second.  With two outs, Megan Ware hit a single through the left side to allow Lawson to come in to score.  Ware then stole second base to get into scoring position.  Marissa Moreland came up to the plate and sent the ball up the middle for a single that allowed Ware to cross home plate to give the Warriors a 3-0 run lead.  Moreland stole second base to get into scoring position.  A single off the bat of Chalee Roper allowed Moreland to come in to score.  Roper then stole both second and third bases to put her sixty feet from home plate.  An error at third allowed Reagan Fulcher to reach first and brought Roper in to score to give the Warriors a 5-0 run victory.

 

 

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will hit the road to Young Harris, GA on April 11 to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions for the second time this semester.  They will then travel down to Rome, GA to take on the Shorter Hawks on April 15.  The Warriors will wrap up the regular season on April 18 as they take on the Converse Valkryies.
