Charlotte, NC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Johnson C Smith Golden Bulls on Monday afternoon in 20-0 and 10-2 final scores.
The Warriors had nine hits in their first contest against the Golden Bulls. Megan Ware, Marissa Moreland, Reagan Fulcher, and Rebecca Lamb each doubled in the game. Ware led the team with five RBIs in the game. Southern Wesleyan walked six times and four Warriors stole bases. Bailey Throckmorton started the game in the circle and struck out eight batters in the four innings she pitched. Alexis Grizzle came in to pitch in relief and struck out two batters.
Southern Wesleyan had seven hits in their second game of the afternoon. Both Brandy Smith and Gabby Smith went 2 for 3 at the plate. Brandy Smith doubled and had a home run to allow her to lead the team with four RBIs. Gabby Smith also doubled. The Warriors walked twice. Gabby Smith stole two bases while Alexis Grizzle had one steal to her name. Harley Hoffman started game two in the circle and pitched four innings while striking out four batters.

How It Happened
Game One
The Warriors charged out of the gate as they scored first in the top of the second inning. Chloe Smith reached first and then advanced to second on an error in center field. Olivia Haag followed by reaching first off an error by the Golden Bulls shortstop. With two on, Abby Lawson hit into a fielder's choice, but all runners were declared safe to load up the bases for Abby Schreiner. Abby Schreiner and Megan Ware each put the ball into play and reached on errors to allow both Smith and Haag to come in to score and give the Warriors a 2-0 run lead. With the bases loaded, Maddie Crouch hit into a fielder's choice that took Schreiner off the bases, but allowed Lawson to come in to score. Ware stole third and Crouch advanced to second as the Golden Bulls attempted to get Ware out. Marissa Moreland walked to load up the bases once again for Regan Fulcher. Fulcher sent the ball into the outfield for a double that allowed Crouch and Ware to each come in to score. An error at third base on a batted ball by Rebecca Lamb allowed Moreland to come in to score the Warriors fifth run of the inning. With one out and runners on second and third, Olivia Haag came up for her second at bat of the inning and put the ball into play in right field. An error in the outfield allowed Haag to reach first and brought Lamb and Fulcher in to score. Back-to-back singles off the bats of Abby Lawson and Abby Schreiner allowed Haag to cross home plate. Another error in the outfield allowed Megan Ware to reach base for the second time in the inning. Both Schreiner and Lawson came in to score on the play.
Southern Wesleyan was not done as they brought several more runs in to score in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Carly Anderson walked. Gracie Scott followed by singling to allow Anderson to advance to second base. However, Abby Schreiner hit into a fielder's choice that took Anderson off the bases and allowed Scott to advance to second. With two runners on, Megan Ware hit a double to clear the bases. Maddie Crouch followed with a walk to put two runners on and bring Marissa Moreland up to the plate. Moreland sent the ball into the outfield for a bases clearing double to put the Warriors ahead 15-0.
The Warriors continued their attacks in the fifth inning. Rebecca Lamb doubled and then came in to score on a single off the bat of Anicka McFarland. With one out, McFarland stole second base and then advanced to third on the throw. Chalee Roper walked and then stole second to put two runners in scoring position and bring Haley Thornsberry up to bat. An error at third allowed Thornsberry to reach first and brought McFarland in to score. With Harley Hoffman at the plate, Thornsberry stole second base. Back-to-back walks to Hoffman and Tori Cannady allowed Roper to come in to score. McKenzie Babb followed by hitting a single to bring two more runners in to score and give the Warriors a 20-0 run victory over the Golden Bulls.
Game Two
The Warriors picked up where they left off in the top of the first inning of game two. With one out, Alexis Grizzle singled. Grizzle came in to score as Brandy Smith hit a double. Madison Gantt came up to the plate and hit a single to bring Smith in to score the Warriors second run of the inning.
In the second inning, Southern Wesleyan struck again. Gabby Smith led off by hitting a double. Haydin Williams walked to bring Madison Knapper up to the plate. Knapper hit a single to bring Smith in to score and put Knapper at second base. A ground out by Kassie Swink allowed both Knapper and Williams to advance a base. Alexis Grizzle ground out to the pitcher to allow Williams to come in to score and give Southern Wesleyan a 4-0 run lead.
Southern Wesleyan was not done as they brought four more runs in to score in the fourth inning. An error at shortstop allowed Gabby Smith to reach first. Smith then stole second base to get into scoring position. Haydin Williams flew out to left field, but Smith was able to advance to third on the play. Madison Knapper walked to put runners on the corners and bring Kassie Swink up to the plate. Swink hit a sacrifice fly out to right field to allow Smith to come in to score. An error at second allowed Alexis Grizzle to reach first and put Knapper on third. Grizzle then stole second base. With two runners in scoring position, Brandy Smith hit a three run home run to put the Warriors on top by eight.
The Golden Bulls answered in the bottom of the inning as a double off the bat of Aniylah Lane allowed Skylar Bledsoe and Taylor Bullard to score Johnson C Smith's first runs of the series.
The Warriors regained their eight run advantage in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Gabby Smith singled and then stole second base. Haydin Williams came up to the plate and reached first on an error by the catcher. However, as the Golden Bulls attempted to get her out, an error at shortstop not only allowed Smith to score, but also allowed Williams to circle all the bases and score to give Southern Wesleyan a 10-2 run victory over the Golden Bulls.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on March 11 as they travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader beginning at 1pm. They will then host the Francis Marion Patriots on Varsity Field on March 13. The Warriors will travel to Franklin Springs, GA on March 14 to take on the Emmanuel Lions.
