Central, SC - Southern Wesleyan is excited to announce Merritt Smith of Track & Field as this week's Mug Shot Coffee Athlete of the Week.

Smith, a senior distance runner on the Track & Field team, broke the school record in the 5000 meters on Friday evening.  She led the whole field in the race as her time of 18:34.31 allowed her to take first place.

She also served as the anchor runner in the Warriors' Distance Medley Relay team.  She joined Elise Foster, Cliare Walker and Freda Ruiz in a sixth place finish with a time of 13:38.05.
