Jaquay Randolph of Southern Wesleyan University has been selected as this week's national player of the week by the NCAA Division II Conference Information Directors of America for the week of Feb. 2-8.
A school record performance as part of a standout week earned Randolph the national honor this week, as he averaged 36 points, 13.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 1.5 assists and a steal in two Southern Wesleyan (9-12) wins. After opening the week with a 23-point, 17-rebound showing in a 79-76 win over Barton, Randolph exploded for an SWU record 49 points in a 117-108 overtime victory over Chowan on Saturday.
Randolph went 17-of-23 from the field in the game – part of a week where he was 27-of-38 (71.1 percent) from the floor – and was also 14-of-19 at the free throw line. In that game, he scored nine straight points in an overtime stretch that allowed the Warriors to extend a one-point advantage to seven over the final 3:27. Randolph also had two assists, two blocked shots and 10 rebounds in the game, leading to his 17th double-double of the season that leads NCAA Division II. He was named as Player of the Week in Conference Carolinas.
