How It Happened

Game One

Olivia Haag shut the Bobcats down until the top of the fourth inning when a single by Hutcheson allowed Todd to come in to score to give Georgia College the lead.

The Warriors answered in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Avery Mercer led off the inning by cranking out her seventh home run in five games as she sent the fourth pitch she saw over the left field wall.  With one out, Abby Schreiner hit a single to center field.  Josie Shoemaker came in to pinch run for Schreiner and advanced to second as Olivia Haag laid down a bunt single.  With two runners on, Talissa Cannady sent the ball over the center field wall for a three run home run to give Southern Wesleyan a 4-1 run lead.

Georgia College cut the Warriors lead down to one in the top of the sixth inning as a single by Caldwell allowed two runs to come across home plate.

Southern Wesleyan was not done as they brought three runs in to score in the bottom of the sixth.  Madison Truett led off by reaching first after being hit by a pitch.  Amberly Way walked and then a single by Avery Mercer loaded up the bases for Rebecca Lamb.  Lamb hit a single to left center field to bring both Truett and McKenzie Babb, who came in to run for Way, in to score.  Sarah Woody came in to pitch run for Mercer and advanced to third when Abby Schreiner flew out to right field.  With two runners on, Talissa Cannady hit a double to right center field to bring Woody in and give the Warriors a 7-3 run victory over the Bobcats.

Game Two

Georgia College went on the offensive early in game two as a single by Checo allowed Caldwell to come in to score the first run of the game for the Bobcats.

Southern Wesleyan fought back in the bottom of the inning.  Maddie Crouch was hit by a pitch to start the inning and then advanced to second as Madison Truett hit a single through the left side of the field.  Amberly Way was hit by a pitch to load up the bases for Avery Mercer.  Mercer hit into a fielder's choice, but the Bobcats' short stop was not able to throw Truett out on the play.  Crouch was able to come in to score during the play to tie the game up.  With the bases still loaded, Rebecca Lamb hit a sacrifice fly out to left field to bring Truett across home plate to give the Warriors the lead.

A passed ball in the top of the second inning allowed the Bobcats to tie the game up once again.  Georgia College pushed on as a double by Caldwell allowed two more runs to come in to score to give the Bobcats a 4-2 run lead.  Chloe Smith came in to pitch in relief and struck out the next two batters to get the Warriors out of the inning.

The Warriors maintained the pressure in the top of the second inning.  Riley Brown led off by hitting a single up the middle, however, Maddie Crouch hit into a fielder's choice on the next play to take Brown off the bases.  Crouch stole second base, but an error by the catcher on the attempt to prevent the steal allowed her to advance to third base.  An error by the third baseman allowed Madison Truett to reach first base and brought Crouch in to score.

Georgia College regained their two run advantage in the top of the third inning as Pollock tripled to left center field to allowed Lancaster to come across home plate to give them a 5-3 run lead.  The Bobcats were not finished in the inning as Wilson hit a single up middle to allow Pollock to score.

Olivia Haag kicked off the bottom of the third inning for the Warriors as she drilled the ball over the left center field wall for a solo home run.

Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away at Georgia College's lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.  With one out, Maddie Crouch and Madison Truett hit back-to-back singles.  Amberly Way drilled the ball to the left field corner for a double that allowed Crouch to come in to score to put the Warriors back within one run of the Bobcats.  McKenzie Babb came in to pinch run for Way and then Avery Mercer walked to load up the bases for Megan Ware.  Ware drilled the ball to deep right center field for a bases clearing double to give Southern Wesleyan an 8-6 run lead over Georgia College.  With Josie Shoemaker pinch running for Ware, Abby Schreiner ground out to third base.  However, an error by the first baseman allowed Shoemaker to come in to score.  Southern Wesleyan went on to win the second game in a 9-6 final score.
