Anderson, SC – Southern Wesleyan swept the Anderson Trojans on Saturday afternoon. They claimed game one 9-0 before taking game two in a 10-2 final score.
The Warriors totaled eight hits in game one with Talissa Cannady leading the team with two hits. Cannady and Amberly Way each homered in the game. Cannady also had a double. Cannady had three RBIs in the game and Way picked up two RBIs. Olivia Haag pitched a compete game shut while striking out three batters.
Southern Wesleyan picked up eight hits in game two with Amberly Way, Avery Mercer and Abby Schreiner all recording two hits. Schreiner led the team with two home runs while Maddie Crouch, Way and Olivia Haag each had one home run. Schreiner led the team with six of the nine RBIs. Crouch stole a base. Emily Collins pitched a complete game while striking out four batters.

How It Happened
Game One
Southern Wesleyan was the first on the board in game one of the afternoon. With one out, Rebecca Lamb singled to left field. Sarah Woody came in to pinch run for Lamb as Olivia Haag came up to bat. Haag reach first after a fielding error by the Trojan's third baseman. Talissa Cannady came up to bat and drilled the ball over the left field wall to give the Warriors a 3-0 run advantage in the top of the second inning.
The Warriors attacked in the top of the third inning as with one out Amberly Way came up to bat and sent the ball over the left field wall.
With one out in the top of the fourth inning, the Warriors added onto their lead. Olivia Haag reached first after hitting a single to left field. Talissa Cannady walked to put two runners on and bring Reagan Fulcher up to bat. Fulcher hit a single to left field to bring Haag in to score and put Cannady at second. Riley Brown came in to pinch run for Fulcher. Maddie Crouch came up to bat and hit a single to left field to bring Cannady in to score the sixth run of the game for the Warriors. Madison Truett followed with a single to left field to bring Brown in to score.
Southern Wesleyan extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning. Talissa Cannady led off the inning with a double down the left field line and then advanced to third on a ground out by Riley Brown. A fielder's choice allowed Maddie Crouch to take first and then Crouch advanced to second. Madison Truett walked to load up the bases and bring Amberly Way up to bat. Way flew out to left field to bring Cannady in to score. A wild pitch allowed Crouch to come in to score to give the Warriors a 9-0 run victory in game one.
Game Two
Southern Wesleyan went on the offensive in the top of the first inning. Maddie Crouch led off the inning with a walk and then stole second. On a bad throw by the shortstop, Crouch was able to advance to third. A wild pitch brought Crouch in to score. Amberly Way came up to bat and sent the ball down the left field line and over the fence to extend the Warriors lead to 2-0. Avery Mercer followed with a double to right field and then Chloe Smith reached first after being hit by a pitch. With two on, Abby Schreiner came up to the plate and sent the ball deep over the left center field wall for a three run blast to give Southern Wesleyan a 5-0 run advantage.
In the top of the second inning, freshman Maddie Crouch collected a home run of her own as she set the ball over the left center field wall.
Anderson plated one run in the bottom of the fourth inning as a single by Nauck allowed Hobbs to come in to score.
Southern Wesleyan would not back down as they brought a couple more runs in to score in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Amberly Way was hit by a pitch. Way advanced to second on a single to left field by Avery Mercer. Chloe Smith hit into a fielder's choice that took Way off the bases, but allowed Mercer to advance to second. Abby Schreiner came up to the plate and sent the ball over the left center field wall for her second home run of the game. With two out, Olivia Haag came up to bat and pick up her first home run of the season as she sent it over the left field wall to extend the Warriors lead to 10-1.
The Trojans were able to bring one more run in to score in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Southern Wesleyan went on to claim a 10-2 victory.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Atlanta, GA on February 12 as they take on the Clark Atlanta Panthers. They will then compete in the USCB Tournament where they will take on both the Allen Yellow Jackets and the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks on February 15. The Warriors will host their home opener on February 17 as they welcome Bluefield State to Varsity Field for a double header beginning at 2pm.
