Warriors Unable to Hold onto Lead Against Trojans

Anderson, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in a hard fought battle against the Anderson Trojans on Thursday evening.

The Warriors picked up eight hits in the loss to the Trojans.  Tristan Tillman and Gage Shaver each had two hits.  Cam Mitchem led the team with two of the three RBIs.  Tillman picked up the other RBI.

Cayden Towell started on the mound for the Warriors and pitched two innings.  Landon Deese, Adrian Abad and Gehrig Schreiber all came in to pitch in relief.  Abad struck out two batters.

How It Happened

Anderson took the first runs of the game as a triple by Stover and a sacrifice fly by Wells brought two runs in to score.

Southern Wesleyan got on the board in the top of the third inning.  Griffin Pickhardt led off the inning with a single up the middle and then advanced to second as Gage Shaver laid down a bunt single.  Tristan Tillman hit a single to left field to load up the bases for Cam Mitchem.  Mitchem ground into a double play that took Tillman off the bases, but brought Pickhardt in to score.

The Trojans plated two more runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 4-1.

The Warriors went on the offensive in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead for the first time in the game.  Ryan Postnieks laid down a bunt single.  Griffin Pickhardt walked and then Gage Shaver hit a single to center field to load up the bases.  With the bases full of Warriors, Tristan Tillman came up to bat and hit a single to left center field to bring Postnieks came in to score.  However, a throwing error on the play allowed Pickhardt to come in to score as well.  With Shaver on third and Tillman on second, Cam Mitchem hit a single to right field to bring both Shaver and Tillman in to score to give Southern Wesleyan a 5-4 run lead.

Anderson tied the game up in the top of the fifth inning as Harrison hit a single to left field to bring Wells in to score.

A home run by Bello in the top of the sixth, and then a wild pitch in the seventh brought two more runs in to score to give the Trojans a 7-5 run victory.

 

 

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will host their home opener on February 7 as they welcome the Auburn Montgomery War Hawks to Central, SC at 4pm.  They will remain at home on February 8 as they take on the War Hawks a second time at 11:00 am and then take on the Limestone Saints at 6pm.  The Warriors will remain at home on February 11 as they host the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears at 5pm.
