How It Happened

The first five on the floor for the Warriors against the Hawks were Taylin Smith, Kaliah Kendrick, Peyton Looky, Rahkhia Mack, and Alexis Glover. Glover opened the team's account on Wednesday with a bucket in the paint, but it was the only score on a 10-2 opening run for Shorter. The home team quickly answered with their own 9-2 run thanks to scores from Asia Pearley and Makayla Raines which got the deficit to 1. Shorter hit back-to-back threes early in the second quarter to increase their lead to double digits, and Southern Wesleyan lost the quarter 18-5 getting scores only from Looky, Kendrick, and Pearley.

Glover again scored the first points of the second half for the Warriors. They had multiple 5-0 runs in the third quarter including one which featured Jordan Race's first made three of the season. After Shorter scored five straight to start the fourth quarter, Southern Wesleyan scored seven straight to cut the lead down to 23. Freshman Kyra Price was a bright spot in the final period, scoring four of her six points and also hauling in several rebounds. SWU was held without a field goal for the last 3:55 of the game, with a pair of Mack free throws being the only scores.
