Fort Valley, GA – Southern Wesleyan took down Fort Valley State 3-2 in the first game of the series. Game two of the series was canceled due to darkness.
The Warriors picked up six hits with both Maddie Crouch and Avery Mercer leading the team with two hits. Both Crouch and Amberly Way hit home runs, and Madison Truett had a double. Way recorded two of the three RBIs. Crouch and Megan Ware each stole bases. Emily Collins started the game on the mound and pitched seven innings while striking out six batters.

How It Happened
The game started out in a pitcher's duel as Emily Collins and Tenison Myricks battled it out in the circle.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Fort Valley State scored the first run as an error allowed Perkins to come in to score.
Southern Wesleyan answered in the top of the fifth inning as freshman shortstop Maddie Crouch knocked the ball over the left field wall for a home run.
Fort Valley State regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Leonard at second, Leverett hit a single to center field to bring her in to score to give them a 2-1 run advantage.
The Warriors would not be deterred as in the top of the seventh inning they attacked the plate once again. With one out, Maddie Crouch hit a single to left field and then stole second base. Madison Truett allowed Crouch to advance as she flew out to left field. With Crouch just feet away from home, Amberly Way drilled the ball over the left field wall for her third home run in two days to give the Warriors a 3-2 run victory.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel down the road to Anderson, SC on February 8 to take on the Anderson Trojans in a doubleheader beginning at noon. They will then travel to Atlanta, Ga on February 12 to take on the Clark Atlanta Panthers. The Warriors will compete in the USCB Tournament on February 15 where they will take on the Allen Yellow Jackets and the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks.
