How It Happened

Set One

The Warriors came out with a vengeance in the first set of the match as Sarah Mitchell and Kaylon Chapman got up to block an attack by Ali Angell.  Katie Fulton followed by serving up her first ace of the match to allow the Warriors to take a 3-0 point lead.  Erskine fought back as Becca Yohe and Ella Dietrich blocked an attack by Kaylon Chapman, but the Warriors continued to press ahead as Ainsley Stovall and Briley Wolff each got down kills.  A block by Karson Haley allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to five.  The Flying Fleet would not go down easily as Aimee Loj got in a kill of her own, and then Ali Angell and Kimmy Stiltner blocked another attack on the net by Chapman.  Sarah Mitchell set the ball up to Ainsley Stovall who drilled it down past the defense.  Southern Wesleyan would not back down as Calie Covey got the ball over the net for a kill to give the Warriors a 25-17 point victory in the first set.

Set Two

Erskine took the first point of the second set, but their lead was short lived as Megan Gilliland got the ball down for a kill.  The Flying Fleet answered with a kill by Becca Yohe to tie the set up.  Amiyah Spann set the ball up to Karson Haley who got in another kill.  A kill by Kaylon Chapman jump started a seven point run for the Warriors that allowed them to take a 15-7 point lead.  Sarah Mitchell got up to block an attack by Jadyn Anderson.  Erskine fought back as Ali Angell and Becca Yohe got in back-to-back kills.  Southern Wesleyan would not relent though as kills by Briley Wolff and Kaylon Chapman allowed them to take the second set in a 25-15 final.

Set Three

Southern Wesleyan charged out of the gate in the final set of the match as Kaylon Chapman got in an opening kill.  Sarah Mitchell and Megan Gilliland got up to block an attack on the net by Becca Yohe.  The Flying Fleet fought back as kills by Jadyn Anderson allowed them to tie the third set up 5-5.  Anderson went on the attack again, and then kills by Becca Yohe and Kimmy Stiltner allowed Erskine to take the lead.  Rylee Bath served up back-to-back aces before kills by Briley Wolff and Kaylon Chapman allowed Southern Wesleyan to stop the Flying Fleet's surge.  Wolff and Karson Haley got up to block another attack by Becca Yohe to put the Warriors on top 15-13.  The Warriors continued to distance themselves from Erskine as Calie Covey served up an ace.  Megan Gilliland got in a couple more kills to put the Warriors within one point of clinching the match.  Sarah Mitchell went up to serve and got in an ace on a misplay by Ali Angell to allow the Warriors to claim the final set in a 25-17 final score.
