Ferrum, VA – Southern Wesleyan took down the Ferrum Panthers on Friday evening in a 3-0 final score.
The Warriors totaled 35 kills compared to the Panthers 17 on the night. Kaylon Chapman led the team with 10 kills. Ainsley Stovall picked up seven kills and Megan Gilliland had six. Setters Katie Fulton and Amiyah Spann both picked up double digits in assists. Fulton had 16 while Spann had 11. Southern Wesleyan served up 14 aces during the match with Fulton leading the team with five. Calie Covey had three aces while both Kaylon Chapman and Alexxis Wader had two.
Southern Wesleyan had 31 digs during the match. Libero Calie Covey had 13 digs. Kaylon Chapman followed with five digs and Faith Paxton had three. The Warriors blocked nine attacks made by the Panthers. Briley Wolff was apart of three blocks.

How It Happened
Set One
The Warriors charged out of the gate as Sarah Mitchell got in a kill. Southern Wesleyan would not relent as Katie Fulton served up a couple of aces to allow the Warriors to extend their lead to 5-0. Ferrum challenged as Catherine Bennett attempted an attack on the net, but Mitchell was there to block the attack. Kills by Kaylon Chapman, Mitchell and Megan Gilliland allowed the Warriors to take a 10-0 point lead. The Panthers got on the board as Bennett got in a kill off a pass from Harleigh Propst. Ferrum was able to get a couple more points, but the Warriors would not relent as Ainsley Stovall and Chapman drilled the ball down for kills. Fulton came up to serve once again and got in another ace. Gilliland got in another kill to give the Warriors a 25-8 point victory.
Set Two
Ferrum was able to get in the first point of the second set as Emma Powell got in a kill. However, an attack error by the Panthers and then a kill by Ainsley Stovall allowed the Warriors to take the lead. Southern Wesleyan continued their attacks as Sarah Mitchell, Stovall and Briley Wolff each got down kills. Sarabeth Johnson looked to get another point on the board for the Panthers, but Stovall and Wolff got up to block her attack on the net. Angela Castillo was able to serve up an ace, but the Warriors answered with another kill by Stovall. Amiyah Spann set the ball up to Faith Paxton who got down a kill. Spann attacked again as she dumped the ball over the net to allow Southern Wesleyan to extend their lead to 16-8. Back-to-back aces by Kaylon Chapman allowed the Warriors to take an eleven point lead. Catherine Bennett and Renee Dove got in a couple of kills, but the Warriors countered as Ainsley Stovall laid down a kill of her own. Briley Wolff got in a kill to allow the Warriors to win the second set in a 25-13 final.
Set Three
The Warriors maintained the intensity in the third set as Sarah Mitchell and Kaylon Chapman got up to block an attack by Danielle Worthy. Katie Fulton served up a couple more aces to put Southern Wesleyan on top 5-0. A kill by Catherine Bennett allowed the Panthers to get on the board. An ace by Calie Covey put the Warriors on top by six. Ferrum battled back as Sarabeth Johnson and Renee Dove got down a couple of kills. An ace by Briley Wolff allowed the Warriors to take a 12-5 point lead. Southern Wesleyan continued to distance themselves from Ferrum as Alexxis Wader was able to serve up a couple of aces. Ferrum came to within ten points of Southern Wesleyan as Dove got down another kill. Ellie Moore got the ball down for a kill to give the Warriors a 25-12 point victory.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on October 22 as they travel to Young Harris, GA to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions at 5pm. They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on October 24 as they host the Lees-McRae Bobcats at 6pm. The Warriors will host the Barton Bulldogs on October 25.
