How It Happened:
The Warriors made big changes to both their starting lineup and rotation following Thursday's win over Clinton College in night one of the back-to-back, opening with
Bobby Taylor,
Marcus Long,
Raevon Allen,
Alex Tavares, and
Aaron Tims on Friday. The Centurions started quickly with scores on their first three possessions, but Long answered with two made threes to tie the game inside the first two minutes. Despite the early defensive struggles, SWU clamped down by holding Carolina Christian to 8:26 without a field goal as they built a comfortable lead. During that stretch,
Raheem Brizendine and
Je'hvonni Hogan excelled with scoring off the bench, using their size and versatility to put pressure on the rim. The Southern Wesleyan lead swelled to as big as 25 in the opening half, thanks to a late Brizendine three.
The shooting barrage continued into the second half for the Warriors, as Tavares and Brizendine continued to hit outside shots in the early stages of the period. Overall, Southern Wesleyan hit 15 threes as a team, led by five from Long and five from Tavares. The lead was pushed up over 40 with more than 6:00 to play thanks to back-to-back scores from Taylor. He had a career day against the Centurions, making plays for himself and others all game long. After Tavares, Long, and Brizendine continued to connect from the outside,
Logan Hockaday made his Warrior debut with five points including a made three of his own. He also had two late free throws to make it a 118-68 final score.
What's Next:
The Warriors remain at home when they face off with Converse University on Wednesday, February 5th. Following that, they travel to King University on Saturday, February 8th, and to Young Harris College on Tuesday, February 11th.
