Three Post Double Digits as Warriors Fall to Bulldogs

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in an 80-68 final score.

The Warriors shot 41.7% from the field and were 38.5% from beyond the arc.  Taylin Smith led the Warriors with 14 points.  Behind her, Lexie Ransom posted 13 and Peyton Looky posted 11.  Of the 13 assists, Ransom led the team with five.  Looky had three assists.

Southern Wesleyan pulled down 32 rebounds.  Peyton Looky collected seven rebounds and DeYana Hayes had six.  Dynasty Shegog recorded the lone block of the game for the Warriors.  They picked up 11 steals with Rahkhia Mack leading the three.

How It Happened

Lauren Walker sunk a three early in the first quarter to give Barton the lead.  However, seconds later Taylin Smith hit a three pointer of her own to tie the game up at three.  Walker hit two more three pointers to put the Bulldogs back on top.  Lexie Ransom laid the ball up into the basket, but Jada Battle hit a jump shot to regain Barton's six point advantage.  With just under five left in the quarter, Lexie Ransom passed the ball out to Taylin Smith.  Smith stepped beyond the arc to hit her second three of the day.  The Warriors continued to fight back with a layup by Dynasty Shegog.  Smith hit another three to tie the game up.  However, Lauren Walker hit another three pointer to put the Bulldogs back on top.

Barton's Leah Hampton fouled Lexie Ransom early in the second quarter to send her to the charity stripe.  Ransom sunk both her shots to tie the game up at twenty-one points apiece.  The Bulldogs regained the lead as Lauren Mingo and Hampton hit back-to-back baskets.  Skylar Quillett knocked down a three pointer.  The Warriors battled back as Peyton Looky knocked down a three.  Barton would not relent as Mingo knocked down a last second three to extend the Bulldogs lead to 41-29 at halftime.

The Bulldogs put up the first points of the third quarter after a foul by Peyton Looky sent Lauren Mingo to the free throw line.  Seconds later, Alexis Glover hit a jump shot and then Rahkhia Mack fired off a three pointer to put the Warriors back within nine.  Barton challenged again as baskets by Leah Hampton and Lauren Walker allowed them to regain their fifteen point lead.  Lexie Ransom put up back-to-back baskets.  With just under three on the clock, Ransom stepped beyond the arc and hit her first three of the afternoon.

Peyton Looky stole the ball away from Lauren Walker and took the ball all the way to the basket and laid it up to put the Warriors down 66-49.  With just under eight minutes left in the game, DeYana Hayes sent the ball out beyond the arc to Rahkhia Mack who hit her second three pointer of the afternoon.  The Warriors came to within nine of the Bulldogs on another three by Mack.  Southern Wesleyan continued to put up a fight as Dynasty Shegog laid the ball up into the basket.  However, Barton would not relent as they won the game in an 80-68 final score.

 

 

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will travel to Franklin Springs, GA on January 28 to take on the Emmanuel Lions at 5pm.  They will remain on the road on February 3 as they travel down the road to Greenville, SC to take on the Bob Jones Bruins.  The Warriors will host the Converse Valkyries on February 5.
