Final: Southern Wesleyan University 132, Carolina Christian College 74

Records: Southern Wesleyan University (4-6), Carolina Christian College (1-12)

How It Happened:

Alex Tavares got his first start in a Warriors jersey today and joining him on the floor to start the game were Che Smith, RJ Bell, Christopher Osobaye, and Aaron Tims. After a slow start to the first half, Southern Wesleyan shook off the new-year rust with a 35-3 run over 7 1/2 minutes. That run was ignited by a ferocious slam from Tims and featured 11 points from Eric Hackett, a nice boost from Raheem Brizendine off the bench, and great on-ball pressure from Bell and Smith before ending just after a transition bucket from Je'hvonni Hogan. The Warriors' ability to force turnovers and score quickly was evident in the first half, as they forced 13 Centurion turnovers and scored 24 points off them.

Although the second half was not nearly as dominant by the home team, Southern Wesleyan continued to build onto their lead with great play from their bench. The Warriors finished the game with an 81-29 and two players who helped define this margin were Ceejay Jordan and Je'hvonni Hogan. Hogan's ability to control the glass and facilitate the offense was key to their second-half success, while Jordan used his ball handling to get the ball into the paint and his size and strength to finish once he got there. SWU's biggest run of the period featured these two as well as a pair of buckets from Brizendine who finished 13 points. The Warriors' record-breaking moment came with just under 3 1/2 minutes to go, when Jackson Moore picked the pocket of a Centurion and finished on the other end for the team's 132nd point of the game.

What's Next:

The Warriors return to conference play on Saturday, January 4th, when they match up with Francis Marion followed by games against Emmanuel on Wednesday, January 8th, and North Greenville on Saturday, January 11th.
