How It Happened

Shaw took the first goal of the game as a penalty in the box allowed Kyle Hatmaker to score a penalty kick goal.  The Warriors were not discouraged as they battled back in the twenty-third minute as Alberto Esquivel sent the ball into the back of the net to allow Southern Wesleyan to tie the game up 1-1.  Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge as Dillon Bennet took a shot on the goal in an attempt to give the Warriors the lead, but Carlos Granado saved the attack from paying off.  Feren Nunez followed with a shot of his own, but it just missed the goal.

The Warriors continued to pressure the Bears in the second half.  The pressure paid off as Alberto Esquivel drilled the ball into the low left corner of the net for his second goal of the afternoon to put the Warriors ahead 2-1.  Southern Wesleyan continued to attack the net with a shot by Michael Boyle, but it missed high to prevent the Warriors from extending their lead further.  Brody Schroeder collected a pass from Leonardo Flores and sent the ball into the low left of the net for the Warriors third goal of the afternoon.  Shaw challenged right back as Kyle Hatmaker got past the Southern Wesleyan defense to score and put the Bears back within one goal of the Warriors.  Southern Wesleyan would not back down as Schroeder and Tipton Wright each took shots on the goal, but both their attacks missed the net.  The Warriors went on to pick up their first win of the 2024 season in a 3-2 final score.
