Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Morris Hornets on Wednesday evening in an 86-45 final score.
The Warriors shot 33.3% from the field and were 76.7% from the free throw line. Taylin Smith led Southern Wesleyan as she posted a season high 23 points. Makayla Raines (13) and Peyton Looky (10) also hit double figures. They picked up 19 assists with four Warriors having three assists in the game.
Southern Wesleyan pulled down 48 rebounds with Alexis Glover leading the team with 11. Dynasty Shegog pulled down seven rebounds. Glover had two blocks. The Warriors stole the ball away from the Hornets 21 times with Shegog recording five steals. Makayla Raines and Lexie Ransom each had four steals.

How It Happened
The Hornets went on the attack early as Jazemyne Lyde laid the ball up and then hit a three pointer seconds later. Southern Wesleyan countered as Alexis Glover passed the ball out to Peyton Looky who put up a jump shot. A layup by Taylin Smith allowed the Warriors to come to within one of the Hornets. Asia Pearley sunk the ball from beyond the arc with just over six minutes left on the clock to give the Warriors their first lead of the game. Makayla Raines collected a defensive rebound and raced down the court to lay the ball up into the basket. Morris fought back with layups by Trinity Hill and Damani Wilson, but Taylin Smith laid the ball up into the basket to give the Warriors a seven point lead.
Southern Wesleyan started strong in the second quarter as Peyton Looky sent the ball out beyond the arc to Taylin Smith who sunk the ball into the basket for a three to give the Warriors a 19-9 point lead. Makayla Raines was fouled as she made a layup to earn the and-one basket. Zoey McMickens laid the ball up for the Hornets, but the Warriors pushed on as Makayla Raines hit a three pointer and then Taylin Smith landed a jump shot. Baskets by Trinity Hill and Yorie Watson kept the Hornets within eighteen points of the Warriors. However, Taylin Smith knocked down back-to-back three pointers to give the Warriors a 44-20 point lead at halftime.
The Warriors continued their attack on the net in the third quarter as Alexis Glover laid the ball up into the basket. Zoey McMickens laid the ball up from in the paint, but a jump shot by Asia Pearley allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to twenty-six with just over seven minutes left in the quarter. Peyton Looky stole the ball away from the Hornets and fired off a shot from beyond the arc. The Hornets made several free throws, but the Warriors would not relent as DeYana Hayes laid the ball up into the basket. Dynasty Shegog put up a layup, but Damani Wilson fouled her on the play to send her to the free throw line for the and-one basket. Southern Wesleyan took a thirty point lead on a layup by Kyra Price. Price hit a late three pointer, but the Hornets countered with a three pointer by Wilson.
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the final quarter of the game with a layup by Alexis Glover. However, the Hornets countered with jump shots by Yorie Watson and Zoey McMickens. Asia Pearley passed the ball out beyond the arc to Taylin Smith who sunk another three pointer. Makayla Raines collected a pass from Peyton Looky and took the ball down the court to lay it up into the basket. Southern Wesleyan continued to distance themselves from Morris College as Alexis Glover laid the ball up into the basket from in the paint. The Hornets countered with a layup by Samaya Johnson. Peyton Looky fired off her second three pointer of the evening, and then a layup by Kyra Price allowed the Warriors to take a forty point lead. The Warriors went on to win the game 86-45 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will hit the road to Wilson, NC on November 23 where they will open up Conference Carolinas action against the Barton Bulldogs. The Warriors will return to Central, SC on November 26 as they host the Flagler Saints at 5pm. They will then travel to Belmont, NC on November 30 to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
