Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the Conference Carolinas match against the Emmanuel Lions on Tuesday in a 3-0 final score.
Southern Wesleyan picked up 16 kills in the loss to the Lions. Michaela Andress led the team with six kills while Emma Ronaldson followed with four kills. Both Ashley Sexton and Amiyah Spann had five assists. Southern Wesleyan had four aces. The Warriors had 38 digs as a team with Kristina Pino leading the team with 12.

How It Happened
Set One
The Lions attacked quickly as a block by Jocelyn Martin and Jill Johnson gave them the lead. Southern Wesleyan cut Emmanuel's lead in half with kills by Trinity Eichman and Michaela Andress. Emmanuel would not relent as kills by Johnson extended their lead to 8-2. Gracie Wilson and Emma Ronaldson blocked the Lions' attack to keep the Warriors within eight. Ronaldson put down two kills and then Ashley Sexton delivered an ace to put the Warriors down 19-11. However, the Lions pushed on to win the first set in a 25-13 final score.
Set Two
Emmanuel took the first point on a kill by Ella Johns. However, a kill by Emma Ronaldson allowed the Warriors to tie the set and then an ace by Ronaldson gave Southern Wesleyan the lead. Southern Wesleyan pushed on with a kill by Michaela Andress. The lead was short lived as Jocelyn Martin and Emily Handson put down kills to tie the set back up. An ace by Andress and kill by Katie Fulton put the Warriors within one point of the Lions. Emmanuel went on a run off kills by Alaina Emminger and Gabrielle McGlamery to extend their lead to eight points. Despite a late kill by Andress, the Warriors dropped the second set to the Lions in a 25-12 final score.
Set Three
Southern Wesleyan took the first point of the final set on an attack error by Emmanuel. The Lions fought back as Layla Bland and Emily Hanson killed the ball. The Warriors would not relent as a kill and ace by Gracie Wilson allowed the Warriors to take a 4-3 point lead. Emmanuel regained the lead on kills by Ellie Jackson and Cailin Pritchard. Pritchard put down another kill to extend the Lions lead to five points. Despite kills by Trinity Eichman and Gracie Wilson, the Lions won the final set in 25-10 final score.
What's Next
The Warriors will travel to Murfreesboro, NC on September 29 as they take on the Chowan Hawks at 6 pm. They will remain on the road on September 30 as they travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs. Southern Wesleyan will then travel to Wise, VA to take on the UVA Wise Cavaliers.
