Southern Wesleyan Drops Road Contest to Emmanuel

Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel Lions on Saturday in a 13-2 final score.

The Warriors took 10 shots and eight shots on goal.  Both Lauryn Esposito and Yael Echeverria had three shots on goal.  Esposito and Echeverria each scored during the game.

Southern Wesleyan picked up 10 ground balls with Echeverria leading the team with three.  Lauryn Esposito and Echeverria led the team in caused turnovers.  Caroline Lark played the whole game in goal and picked up four saves.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan attacked first as Lauryn Esposito put the ball into the back of the cage.  The Warriors continued to attack as Anita Renee Rhodes took a shot on the goal, but Maidson Duncan saved the free position shot.  Emmanuel countered as Justine Dorelas scored to put the Lions on the board.  The Lions continued to push ahead with goals by Ashley Mercker and Lauren Kuschel.

Emmanuel would not relent as the put several more goals into the cage to put them on top 6-1 with just over fourteen minutes left in the second quarter.  Lexi Richardson caused a turnover to get the ball back into the Warriors possession.  Mack Moreau collected the ball from Richardson and attacked the cage, but her shot sailed high.  The Lions would not relent as they peppered the cage to extend their lead and force a running clock.  Meghan Jennings sent the ball to the cage once again, but Caroline Lark saved the attack from paying off.  Yael Echeverria scored a last second goal to put the Warriors down 11-2 at halftime.

The Lions continued their attacks as Madison Pena took a shot on goal from the close right wing to put Emmanuel back ahead by ten.  Southern Wesleyan reciprocated with shots by Lauryn Esposito and Anita Renee Rhodes, however, Laila Sampson saved the attacks from paying off.  Emmanuel scored on a man-down goal by Anna Gill to take a 13-2 goal victory over the Warriors.
 
 
 


 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to Childs Field on April 1 as they welcome the North Greenville Crusaders at 1 p.m.  They will remain at home on April 4 as they host the Truett-McConnell Bears at 5 p.m.  The Warriors will remain at home on April 7 as they take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans.  Southern Wesleyan will welcome the Converse Valkyries to Childs Field on April 12 for senior night.
