Central, SC – The Warriors swept the first two games of their Conference Carolinas opener against the Chowan Hawks on Friday evening. Southern Wesleyan took game one 2-0 before claiming a 14-3 game two victory over the Hawks.
Southern Wesleyan picked up six hits in the first game of the afternoon. Both
Marcerio Allen and
Chance Fogel had two hits. Fogel doubled twice and picked up the two RBIs of the game.
Steven Mufareh started on the mound for Southern Wesleyan and pitched a complete game shut out while striking out seven batters.
The Warriors picked up nine hits in the second game.
Cam Mitchem led the team with two hits including a double and a grand slam. The other double of the game came off the bat of
Josh Long. Southern Wesleyan walked eight times and
Marcerio Allen stole a base.
Cord Babcock started game two and pitched six innings and struck out six.
Ryan Folts closed out the game for the Warriors and struck out the final two batters.

How It Happened
Game One
The Warriors attacked in the bottom of the third inning.
Jackson Mix led off with a single to right center. Mix advanced to second on another single to right center this time off the bat of
Marcerio Allen.
Travis Hammond bunted into a sacrifice out, but both runners were able to advance ninety feet.
Chance Fogel doubled down the left field line to bring two runs in.
Chowan challenged, but
Steven Mufareh and the Warriors defense stayed strong to shut down their attacks and give Southern Wesleyan a 2-0 game one victory.
Game Two
Southern Wesleyan attacked in the bottom of the first inning.
Marcerio Allen led off by reaching first after being hit by a pitch. A passed ball then allowed Allen to advance to second base.
Travis Hammond hit into a sacrifice bunt to advance Allen to third.
Chance Fogel hit the ball toward third, but an error by the third baseman allowed him to reach first and brought Allen across home plate to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
Cam Mitchem led off the bottom of the second inning for the Warriors with a double down the left field line. With one out,
Jackson Mix singled up the middle to bring Mitchem home.
Marcerio Allen singled and then advance to second on the throw. Mix was able to come in to score on the play.
Travis Hammond singled and then
Chance Fogel walked to load up the bases.
TJ Highsmith walked to bring Allen in to score.
Josh Long then drilled the ball down the left field line to bring all three runners in to score. A deep single by
Marty Grisso scored Long to give Southern Wesleyan an 8-0 run lead.
The Warriors struck once again in the bottom of the third inning.
Jackson Mix led off with a walk and then advanced to second on a walk to
Marcerio Allen.
Travis Hammond hit a sacrifice fly down the right field line that allowed Mix to advance to third. Allen then stole second base, but on the throw down to second Mix was able to come in to score. Back-to-back walks to
Chance Fogel and
TJ Highsmith loaded up the bases. A walk to
Josh Long brought in Southern Wesleyan's tenth run of the evening. With two outs and the bases loaded,
Cam Mitchem drilled the ball deep over the left field fence for a grand slam home run to bring four in to score and put the Warriors ahead 14-0.
A homer by Warren Bailey put the first run on the board for the Hawks in the top of the fourth innings. Chowan brought two more runs in to score in the top of the seventh inning. However, the Warriors walked away with a 14-3 game two victory.
What's Next
The Warriors will wrap up the series against the Chowan Hawks on February 25 at 1 p.m. Southern Wesleyan will honor all alumni players and coaches prior to the first pitch of the afternoon. They will then host the USC Aiken Pacers on March 1 at 3 pm. The Warriors will travel to Belmont, NC on March 3-4 to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
