Anderson, SC – The Warriors fell in the season opener to the Anderson Trojans on Saturday afternoon.
Southern Wesleyan collected 15 shots with 10 being on goal in the loss to Anderson.
Lauryn Esposito led the team with six shots on goal. She was followed by
Jocelyn Cosgrove with four. Both Esposito and Cosgrove recorded four goals in the game. The Warriors had three assists. Southern Wesleyan totaled five ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Caroline Lark and
Deandra Martin each collected minutes in goal for the Warriors.

How It happened
The Trojans took the first goal of the game as Grace Van Dinter put the ball into the cage. They extended their lead to 2-0 seconds later on a goal by Hannah Thomas. The Warriors fought back as a foul in the eight meter allowed the Warriors to take a free position shot.
Jocelyn Cosgrove took the free position and put it into the back of the cage to put the Warriors down 4-1 with just over nine minutes left in the quarter. Anderson continued to push ahead of the Warriors as they put in six more goals before a foul allowed Cosgrove to take another free position shot. Cosgrove scored the second goal of the game to put the Warriors down 10-2. The Trojans maintained the pressure as goals by Cassidy Jones forced a running clock.
Anderson took the first goal of the second quarter on a shot by Hannah Thomas. Southern Wesleyan fought back as
Fianna Steves caused a turnover and collected a ground ball. However, the Trojans got the ball back as Audrey Spencer collected it and put it into the cage to give Anderson a 15-2 goal advantage.
Kali Letcher passed the ball into the eight meter to
Lauryn Esposito. Esposito flipped the ball into the cage for the third goal for the Warriors. A last second goal by Esposito put the Warriors down 19-4 at halftime.
Yael Echeverria won the first draw of the third quarter. However, the Trojans got the ball back and Laine Stanton was able to score to give the Trojans a 20-4 goal lead. Anderson pushed further ahead on a goals by Gwen Ontiveros and Cassidy Jones.

Anderson continued to push ahead in the final quarter of the game as Cassidy Jones scored once again for the Trojans.
Lauryn Esposito took more shots on the cage, but her shots went high or hit the post. A foul in the eight meter allowed
Jocelyn Cosgrove to take another free position attempt. She sent the ball into the back of the cage to put the Warriors down 26-6.
Mack Moreau took a shot on the cage, but her shot soared high. The Warriors remained in control of the ball as
Jocelyn Cosgrove got the ball to
Lauryn Esposito who scored the seventh goal of the afternoon. Cosgrove collected the ball and scored again. However, the Warriors fell in a 27-8 final score.
What's Next
The Warriors will next travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at noon on March 4. They will then travel to Newberry, SC to take on the Newberry Wolves on March 8. Southern Wesleyan will return home on March 11 to host their home opener against the Barton Bulldogs.
