How It Happened

The Warriors attacked early as Karla Gordon sent the ball up to Bella Hanzel.  Hanzel drove to the net to take a shot, but Grace O'Shaughnessy saved the attack.  The Warriors continued to pressure as Fianna Steves passed the ball over to Hanzel.  Hanzel took a short stride before sending the ball into the corner of the net just three minutes into the half to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.  However, the lead was short lived as seconds later the Hurricanes tied it up on a goal by Lucia Bustamante.  The Warriors attacked again with Karla Gordon taking a shot, but her shot went high of the goal.  The Hurricanes continued to challenge as Emma Carter took a shot on the goal, but Amanda Magnin collected the ball to keep Georgia Southwestern from taking the lead.  Georgia Southwestern' s Payton Johnson broke away and got around the Warriors defense to score and give the Hurricanes a 2-1 goal advantage with twenty minutes remaining in the first half.  However, Southern Wesleyan continued to press as Bella Hanzel cross the ball to Karla Gordon, but O'Shaughnessy collected the cross to prevent the Warriors from tying the game back up.  The Hurricanes scored once more to lead 3-1 at halftime.

Southern Wesleyan maintained the intensity in the second half as Nadya Perez and Bella Hanzel each drove the ball toward the net, but the Georgia Southwestern defense thwarted each attack.  The Hurricanes pressured right back as a shot off the foot of Teresa Rodriguez scored their fourth goal of the evening.  The Warriors continued to challenge as Madi Wurst and Brooke Cash took back-to-back shots on goal, but goalkeeper Grace O'Shaughnessy protected the net to keep Southern Wesleyan from cutting into the Hurricanes lead.  Georgia Southwestern went on to win the game in a 5-1 final score.
