Wilson, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals on Monday afternoon in a 14-11 final score.
The Warriors took 27 shots in the loss to the Bulldogs with 22 of the shots being on goal.
Tabitha Beecher led the team with nine shots and seven shots on goal.
Kelsey Hawkins scored five goals for the Warriors with Beecher following with four. Beecher led the team with three of the six assists.
Haylee Cureton followed with two assists.
Southern Wesleyan caused seven turnovers.
Jairy Sandoval led the team with five of the caused turnovers. The Warriors picked up 19 ground balls with Sandoval recording eight of them.
Kaeleigh McDaniel played all sixty minutes in goal for the Warriors and collected 11 saves.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan attacked the cage early as
Jocelyn Cosgrove and
Tabitha Beecher each took shots on the goal, but Barton stood strong as Olivia LaValle saved every attack. The Bulldogs countered with an attack of their own, resulting in a goal by Avery Woodcock. Barton maintained the pressure scoring back-to-back goals to give them a 3-0 goal advantage with just over nine minutes left in the first quarter. The Warriors were not discouraged as a foul in the eight meter allowed
Kelsey Hawkins to take a free position shot. Hawkins drilled the ball into the back of the cage to put the Warriors down 3-1. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge the Bulldogs defense as both Beecher and Hawkins took shots on the goal, but LaValle saved each attack. With just over three minutes left in the quarter, Kate Matuza broke away from the pack and passed the ball over to Sydney Quinn who scored to regain Barton's three goal lead. Southern Wesleyan maintained the intensity as a second foul in the eight meter allowed Beecher to take a free position shot. Beecher drove the ball into the cage to allow the Warriors to get within two of the Bulldogs.
Trailing by three, Southern Wesleyan started the second quarter strong as
Mackenzie Moreau took a shot on the goal. Barton thwarted the attempt as Olivia LaValle saved the ball from reaching the back of the cage. The Warriors continued to pressure the ball as
Tabitha Beecher drove around the Bulldog defense to score her second goal of the game to put the Warriors down 5-3. Beecher got around the defense once again and flipped the ball over to
Kelsey Hawkins who put the ball around the goalkeeper for her second goal of the afternoon. Barton countered as Tamia Marshall fired off a shot from beyond the eight meter that found the back of the cage to give the Bulldogs a 6-4 goal advantage with just over ten minutes left in the quarter. The Warriors fought right back as
Jesse Soles sent the ball over to
Tabitha Beecher as she ran around from behind the cage. Beecher sent the ball into the upper corner to allow Southern Wesleyan to come to one goal of the Bulldogs. Barton countered with back-to-back goals to push them back ahead by three goals. However, with just under four minutes on the clock,
Haylee Cureton got the ball over to
Jocelyn Cosgrove who put it into the cage to put the Warriors behind the Bulldogs 8-6 at the end of the first half.
Barton continued to push ahead as Jayden Smith scored her first goal of the game to put the Bulldogs on top 9-6. Southern Wesleyan countered shortly afterwards as
Tabitha Beecher took an underhanded shot on the goal and sent the ball into the back of the cage. The Warriors continued to attack as Beecher took another shot on the goal, but Olivia LaValle saved the attack. The Bulldogs countered with attacks of their own out of the sticks of Samantha Diaz and Kate Matuza, but
Kaeleigh McDaniel thwarted the attack to save the ball from reaching the net. However, the Bulldogs maintained the pressure as Diaz got the ball into the cage to give Barton a 10-7 goal lead. A foul in the eight meter allowed Barton to take a free position attempt and score their eleventh goal of the game out of the stick of Tamia Marshall.
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the final quarter of play strong as
Haylee Cureton passed the ball over to
Kelsey Hawkins. Hawkins stepped around the cage and fired off a shot into the goal to put the Warriors back within three goals of the Bulldogs. The Warriors maintained the pressure as
Jairy Sandoval drove down the middle of the field and drilled the ball into the back of the cage to put Southern Wesleyan down 11-9 with just under thirteen minutes left on the clock. Barton pressed on as Samantha Diaz and Samantha Serio each took shots, but
Kaeleigh McDaniel and the Warriors defense stayed strong to keep them from extending their lead further. Southern Wesleyan collected the ball and raced it down the field.
Tabitha Beecher flipped the ball over to
Kelsey Hawkins who put it into the cage to put the Warriors within one goal of the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs pressed back as Jayden Smith scored to allow Barton to regain their two goal lead. Barton would not relent as Raegan Kemppainen scored the Bulldog's thirteenth goal of the game. Southern Wesleyan pushed back as Beecher passed the ball to Hawkins as she charged toward the cage. Hawkins sent the ball into the top of the cage to allow the Warriors to get back within two goals of the Bulldogs. However, the Bulldogs went on to win the game in a 14-11 final score.
