How It Happened

Game One
King attacked the plate in the third inning of the first game of the afternoon as they drove in five runs to take the early lead.

Southern Wesleyan scored their first run of the afternoon in the top of the fourth inning.  Addi Johnson led off the inning by reaching first on a walk.  Emma Jo Wolfe drilled the ball to left center for a double to allow Johnson to advance to third.  With two outs, a failed pick-off attempt allowed Johnson to score to put the Warriors down 5-1.

The Warriors cut into the Tornado lead again in the top of the fifth inning.  After a series of fielder's choice plays, Haley Bertie reached first base.  Bertie advanced to second as Delaney Byers walked.  A fielding error by the short stop allowed Addi Johnson to reach first and advance both runners.  With the bases loaded, Emma Jo Wolfe singled to second base to bring Bertie in to put Southern Wesleyan within three runs of King.

The Tornado plated their sixth run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-2 run lead over the Warriors.

Southern Wesleyan would not go down without a fight as they brought three more runs in to score in the top of the sixth inning.  Emma Collins led off with a single down the left field line and then stole second base to put her in scoring position.  With two outs, Emmy Copeland singled up the middle to allow Collins to come in and score.  Haley Bertie singled to first base to advance Copeland to second base.  A wild pitch allowed both Bertie and Copeland to advance to put both runners in scoring position.  Delaney Byers then singled to left field to bring both Bertie and Copeland in to score.  However, the Tornado would take the first game in a 6-5 final score.

Game Two
King took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as they brought in three runs to score.

Southern Wesleyan was not discouraged as they attacked in the top of the second inning.  Emma Collins led off with a single through the left side and then advanced to third base on back-to-back wild pitches by the Tornado.  With one out, Faith Bowen grounded out to the short stop to allow Collins to come in to score and put the Warriors down 3-1.

The Tornado would not relent as they went on to score runs in the third and fourth innings to win the game in a 12-1 final score.
