Spartanburg, SC – Southern Wesleyan defeated the University of Mount Olive Trojans in the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon in a 72-55 final score.
The Warriors shot 49.2% from the field in the game. Both
Ta'Jay Dunlap and
Davion Bradford led the team in scoring as they each secured 18 points.
Tranard Ferrell followed with 13 points. Southern Wesleyan had eight assists with Dunlap leading the team with three.
Southern Wesleyan collected 50 rebounds wih
Tranard Ferrell recording 11 to lead the team to give him a double-double.
Davion Bradford also had a double-double as he secured 10 rebounds.
Demarcus Addie also had 10 rebounds. Three Warriors had blocks and Bradford led the team with four of the seven steals.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan attacked the net early as
Arusha Hunter passed the ball under the net to
Tranard Ferrell who laid it up to put the Warriors on top 2-0. Mount Olive challenged right back to tie it back up on a jump shot by Jeremiah Phifer. Back-to-back layups by
Tranard Ferrell allowed the Warriors to take a four point lead.
Davion Bradford fired off a shot from beyond the arc to extend the Warriors lead to 11-6 with fifteen minutes left in the first half. The Trojans continued to challenged as Trayvon Ferrell and Cole Johnson each scored to put them back within two. Bradford collected a missed shot and put it back up to regain the Warriors four point lead. The Trojans continued to challenge the Warriors attacks, but
Solomon Smith laid the ball up to put Southern Wesleyan ahead 23-19. A layup by
Ta'Jay Dunlap with just over six minutes left put the Warriors on top by eight points.
Davion Bradford stole the ball away from Darius Spragley and took the ball down the court to dunk it into the basket to give the Warriors a 29-19 point lead.
Tranard Ferrell laid the ball up into the basket to give the Warriors a 35-21 point lead at the half.
The Warriors struck first in the second half as
Arusha Hunter stepped beyond the arc and fired off a three point shot to give the Warriors a seventeen point lead. Mount Olive countered with a three point shot by Jeremiah Phifer. However, a layup by
Ta'Jay Dunlap put the Warriors on top 40-24 with just under nineteen left in the second half. Phifer stole the ball away and dunked it into the basket to allow the Trojans to come within thirteen.
Quinian Rieves put up a hook shot to give the Warriors a fifteen point lead, but the Trojans countered with six points off layups to put them back within nine of the Warriors.
Demarcus Addie went to the net and put up a jump shot extend the lead to 51-42. Mount Olive challenged back, but
Tranard Ferrell blocked the attack to keep them from cutting into the Warriors lead. With just under seven minutes left, Rieves laid the ball up to allow Southern Wesleyan to take an eleven point lead.
Ta'Jay Dunlap was fouled as he made a layup to get the and one and give Southern Wesleyan a 58-46 point lead. Southern Wesleyan continued to push as Dunlap put the ball into the basket on back-to-back shots to give the Warriors a 72-55 point victory.

Southern Wesleyan will continue in the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Tournament on March 5 as they return to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on the campus of Wofford to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves at noon.
