Southern Wesleyan Drops Conference Series to Francis Marion

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the double header against the Francis Marion Patriots in an 8-2 and 22-1 final scores.

The Warriors had five hits in the first game of the afternoon with Delaney Byers leading the team with two.  Byers doubled and Emma Jo Wolfe had a triple.  Kaitlyn Stewart had both the RBIs of the game.  Southern Wesleyan walked three times.  Faith Bowen started the first game of the afternoon and pitched seven innings while striking out six batters.

Southern Wesleyan collected seven hits in the second game of the day.  Emma Collins led the team with two hits.  Both Collins and Faith Bowen had doubles.  Addi Johnson had the lone RBI for the Warriors.  Emma Collins started the second game of the day and struck out two over 4.2 innings.  Faith Bowen came in to pitch in relief for the Warriors.

How It Happened
 
Game One
Francis Marion took the first run of the game on a home run down the left field line by Matsil in the top of the second inning.  The Patriots continued to push ahead with runs in the third and fourth innings to lead by seven.

Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Faith Bowen led off with a walk.  With two outs, Mary Sullivan walked to put two runners on and bring Kaitlyn Stewart up to bat.  Stewart singled to right field to bring both Sullivan and Bowen in to score.

The Patriots went on to score once more in the top of the seventh to win the game with an 8-2 final score.
 
 
Game Two
Francis Marion attacked early in game two as they brought four runs in to score in the top of the first inning.  They plated more runs in the top of the second and third innings.

The Warriors challenged in the bottom of the third inning.  Emma Collins led off with a double down the right field line.  A ground out by Delaney Byers allowed Collins to advance to third base.  Addi Johnson then grounded out to short stop to bring Collins in and put the Warriors down 10-1.

The Patriots would not relent as the scored twelve runs in the top of the fifth to win the game 22-1
 
 
 
What's Next

The Warriors will remain at home on March 29 as they host the Augusta Jaguars at 3 and 5 p.m.  They will then travel to Hartsville, SC to take on the Coker Cobras on March 30 at 1 and 3 p.m.  The Warriors will return to Varsity Field on April 1 and 2 to host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders and University of Mount Olive Trojans.
