Warriors Roar Past Bruins at Home

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Bob Jones Bruins on Wednesday evening in an 88-49 final score.
 
The Warriors shot 57.4% from the field and were 50% from beyond the arc in the victory.  Five Warriors posted double digits during the game with Nakia Hooks leading the team with 19.  She was followed by Brittany Mack (16), Tristen Berry (15), Allie Newberry (13) and Brooke Henricks (10).  Southern Wesleyan had 19 assists.
 
Southern Wesleyan collected 36 rebounds.  Nakia Hooks and Brooke Henricks led the team with seven, with both Tristen Berry and Shelby Glance following with six.  Henricks went on to have the lone block of the game.  The Warriors stole the ball away nine times with Henricks collecting two.  Behind Henricks, both Brittany Mack and Kayla Garrett had two steals in the contest.

How It Happened
 
Bob Jones took the first points on a three point shot by Tamrah Konieczka, but the Warriors countered as a jump shot by Sasha Schoenborn put Southern Wesleyan on top 4-3.  A three pointer by Brittany Mack extended the Warriors lead to four points.  The Warriors would not let down their attacks as back-to-back layups by Tristen Berry pushed Southern Wesleyan's lead to eight points with just over three minutes left.  Bob Jones countered with baskets by Annie Miller and Bailey Green to put them back within six points.
 
The Warriors charged out of the gate as Brooke Henricks stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three to put them ahead 20-11.  Allie Newberry passed the ball over to Brittany Mack who laid the ball up to put them ahead by eleven points with just over nine minutes left in the second quarter.  A layup by Bailey Green allowed the Bruins to come within nine.  However, it was short lived as Nakia Hooks laid the ball up to put the Warriors back on top by eleven.  Southern Wesleyan continued to press ahead with a jump shot by Shelby Glance.  A last second layup by Brittany Mack put the Warriors ahead by nineteen points at halftime.
 
Southern Wesleyan charged ahead in the third quarter as Nakia Hooks laid the ball up to extend the Warriors lead to 45-24.  Back-to-back free throws by Shea Dickinson and Delaney Edwards allowed the Bruins to come to within seventeen.  However, Southern Wesleyan countered with three point shots by Brittany Mack, Tristen Berry and Shelby Glance to push them back up to a twenty-four point lead with just over four minutes left.
 
Brittany Mack stole the ball away to kick off the final quarter of the game and passed the ball up to Brooke Henricks who raced down the court on a fast break to lay the ball up and put the Warriors on top 61-35.  Layups by Shelby Glance and Nakia Hooks gave the Warriors a 29-point lead with just under eight minutes left in the game.  Brittany Mack stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three point shot to give the Warriors a 76-41 point lead.  Bob Jones countered with baskets by Tamrah Konieczka to put them within thirty-six, but layups and free throws by Allie Newberry gave Southern Wesleyan a forty point lead.  Southern Wesleyan went on to win the game in a 88-49 final score.
 
 
 
 
What's Next
 
Southern Wesleyan will next go on the road to Pembroke, NC to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves on February 11 at 5 p.m.  They will remain on the road on February 12 to take on the Chowan Hawks.  The Warriors will return home on February 14 to host the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 3 p.m.  They will remain at home on February 16 to host the Emmanuel Lions at 5:30 p.m.
