How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan took the first points of the game on free throw baskets by Davion Bradford and Julian Cameron.  A layup by Cameron in the paint extended the Warriors lead to five points before a jump shot by Isaiah Curry put the Tornado within three.  King continued to cut into the Warriors lead on a layup by Michael Mays.  However, three point baskets by Demarcus Addie and Julian Cameron allowed Southern Wesleyan to take an eight point advantage with just under thirteen minutes left in the first half.  A layup by Mays allowed the Tornado to come within four, but Solomon Smith laid the ball up to put the Warriors ahead by six points once again.  King would not relent as a three point shot by Darron Howard gave them a 21-19 point advantage, but a jump shot by Addie allowed Southern Wesleyan to tie the game back up seconds later.  Southern Wesleyan continued to counter every one of the King Tornado attacks with baskets of their own, taking a 27-23 point lead on jump shots by Tranard Ferrell and Julian Cameron.  However, King led 41-38 at halftime.

Brandon Lamberth sunk a jump shot to extend the Tornado lead to five points to start the second half.  However, back-to-back baskets by Ta'Jay Dunlap and Quinian Rieves allowed the Warriors to come to within one point of the Tornado.  King pushed further ahead, but Southern Wesleyan was not discouraged as they fought back with back-to-back threes by Arusha Hunter to allow them to regain the lead with just over fifteen minutes left in the half.  Julian Cameron collected the ball and sunk a jump shot in the paint to give the Warriors a 55-51 point advantage.  The Tornado were not done as Connor Jordan made baskets to put King back on top by one point.  King pushed ahead, but Southern Wesleyan kept the game close on shots by Dunlap and Rieves.  Dunlap collected the ball and charged down the court, stepping beyond the arc to fire off a three point shot to give the Warriors a 65-64 point lead with just over eight minutes left.  However, the Tornado fought ahead as they went on to win the game 83-76.
