Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the match to the Converse Valkyries on Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 final score.
The Warriors collected 30 kills in the loss to the Valkyries.
Emily Ellis led the Warriors with 12 kills while
Amber Bass followed with 10. Both
Kali Letcher and
Ashley Sexton led the team with 13 of the 28 assists. Southern Wesleyan recorded 44 digs with Bass leading the team with 15. The Warriors recorded four aces and four blocks in the match.

How It Happened
Set One
The Valkyries jumped out early in the first set as a kill by Jasmine Finkley and an ace by Savannah Ducote gave them a 2-0 point lead. Southern Wesleyan countered with a kill by Tiyonnah Brown to allow them to get on the board.
Riley Young put down a kill to tie the set up 3-3, but the Valkyries pushed ahead on a kill by Evelyn Fitz. Converse took a four point lead, but
Emily Ellis drilled down a kill to allow the Warriors to come to 8-5 behind the Valkyries. The Valkyries push ahead, but the Warriors countered with kills by Ellis and Trinity Eichman to keep the set close.
Riley Young put the ball in the back corner for a service ace to put the Warriors down 20-17. However, Converse took the first set 25-19.
Set Two
Converse took the first points on kills by Anna Rabon and Jasmine Finkly in the second set. However, the Warriors tied the set up on a kill by Tiyonnah Brown. Southern Wesleyan pushed ahead as
Amber Bass killed the ball and
Kali Letcher put down an ace. The lead was short lived as the Valkyries went on a four point run to give them a 7-5 point advantage.
Emily Ellis drilled the ball down once again to allow the Warriors to stay within four of the Valkyries. Converse fought ahead as back-to-back aces by Jasmine Finkley allowed them to extend their lead to nine points. The Valkyries went on to win the second set 25-19.
Set Three
The Valkyries jumped out early in the third set, but a kill by
Amber Bass allowed the Warriors to get on the board. Converse pushed ahead on a kill by Maddie Mount. Southern Wesleyan continued to fight as Gavirelle Elswick and
Amber Bass blocked the Valkyries attack to put them down 9-6. However, Anna Rabon collected a kill to allow the Valkyries to extend their lead to seven points. The Warriors were not discouraged as they chipped away at the Valkyries lead with kills by
Emily Ellis and
Amber Bass. Bass killed the ball once again to put the Warriors within one point of the Valkyries. Despite another kill by
Amber Bass, the Valkyries took the final set in a 25-22 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the regular season on November 1 as they host the Erskine Flying Fleet in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
