How It Happened
Belmont Abbey attacked the net early as Davis McBee took a shot on the goal, but
Wesley Bigbee collected the attack to keep the Crusaders off the board. The Crusaders continued to fight, but senior captain
Zachary Hurst directed the Warriors back line to thwart every attack.
Feren Nunez sent the ball up ahead of the defensive line.
Pedro Fonseca collected the pass and sent it past the Crusader goalkeeper into the net to give the Warriors the early 1-0 lead. The Crusaders would not relent as McBee took control of the ball off a pass by Jorge Aguilar minutes later and put it into the net to allow Belmont Abbey to tie the game back up. The game remained tied up 1-1 at the half.
The Crusaders maintained their intensity in the second half as Josh Gregg collected a pass from Davis McBee and put the ball into the back of the net to give Belmont Abbey a 2-1 goal lead. They continued to pressure the Warriors' defense as Zion Duncan sent the ball toward the goal, but
Wesley Bigbee saved the attack from reaching the back of the net. Southern Wesleyan countered with multiple shots by
Austin Snow, but Nikolaus Opel saved each of the attacks to keep the Warriors from cutting into their lead. The Crusaders scored again, this time off the foot of Samuel Atherton. Despite trailing by two goals, the Warriors continued to challenge with shots by
Pedro Fonseca and
Austin Snow, however the Crusader back line thwarted each of the Warriors' attacks. Despite late shots by
Trey Greenwood and
Feren Nunez, the Warriors dropped the game 3-1.
