Set One
Francis Marion kicked off the first set with an ace by Kaylee Gillespie. The Warriors countered as
Gavirelle Elswick laid down a kill to tie the set up. The Patriots pushed ahead, but kills by
Tiyonnah Brown and
Amber Bass allowed the Warriors to stay within one point.
Abigail Gannaio put down a kill to tie the set up 5-5. Francis Marion would not relent as they went on a ten point run to take a 15-5 point lead. Despite an assisted block by
Emily Ellis and
Gavirelle Elswick, the Patriots took the first set 25-10.
Set Two
The Patriots attacked early in the second set as a kill by Katie Kemp gave them a 3-0 point lead.
Gavirelle Elswick and
Amber Bass collected kills to put the Warriors down 3-4. Francis Marion continued to push ahead on kills by Lily Walton and Kalee Peter. Southern Wesleyan challenged as a kill by
Emily Ellis put the Warriors within six. The Patriots maintained the offensive as kills by Caroline Lucas, Lily Walton and Katie Kemp gave the Warriors 20-8 point lead. The Warriors would not relent as kills by
Abigail Gannaio,
Amber Bass and
Ashley Sexton allowed the Warriors to stay within seven. However, Francis Marion took the second set in a 25-18 final.
Set Three
Francis Marion broke out early, but a kill by
Trinity Eichman allowed Southern Wesleyan to stay within one. An ace by Zoie Larkins extended the Patriots lead to 5-2. The Patriots continued to push ahead, but a kill by
Kali Letcher allowed the Warriors to come to 6-10 behind them.
Amber Bass put down a powerful kill, and then an assisted block by Bass and
Riley Young put the Warriors down 22-11. Despite a kill by
Riley Young, the Patriots won the final set 25-12.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Banner Elk, NC to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats on October 19. They will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on October 21 to host the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 6 p.m. The Warriors will then host the UNC Pembroke Braves on October 22 at 2 p.m. Southern Wesleyan will travel to Franklin Springs, GA on October 25 to take on the Emmanuel Lions at 7 p.m.
