Second Half Rally Pushes Warriors Past Patriots

Florence, SC – Southern Wesleyan rallies in second half to take down Francis Marion in a 70-65 final score.

The Warriors shot 44.2% from the field and were 65.5% from the free throw line in the victory over the Patriots.  Demarcus Addie led the team with 20 points.  He was followed by Ta'Jay Dunlap with 17 points and Tranard Ferrell with 11 points.  Southern Wesleyan had 12 assists during the game with Ferrell leading the team with four.

Southern Wesleyan collected 41 rebounds.  Demarcus Addie had 10 rebounds to give him a double-double in the game.  Tranard Ferrell had the lone block during the game.  The Warriors collected six steals with Davion Bradford recording three of them.

How It Happened

Francis Marion took the first points of the game on a fast break jump shot by Tionne Rollins, however Southern Wesleyan countered with a jump shot by Demarcus AddieTa'Jay Dunlap stepped beyond the arc and fired off a three to give the Warriors a 5-2 point lead.  The Patriots countered with back-to-back jump shots by Jonah Pierce and Yohan-Steve Yebga to give them an 8-7 point lead.  Francis Marion continued to push ahead on three point shots by Farid SaintCyr Jr and Alex Cox.  Baskets by Addie allowed the Warriors to stay within three with just under six minutes left in the first half.  Nick Silva put the ball into the basket to push the Patriots lead up to 32-23.  Francis Marion led 34-23 at the half.

Demarcus Addie stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three to kick off the second half of the game.  The Warriors continued to chip away at the Patriots lead as Addie sunk a second three and Arusha Hunter laid the ball up into the net.  Francis Marion was not discouraged as a jump shot by Tionne Rollins allowed them to maintain a four point lead.  Addie made another three to put the Warriors within one position.  However, the Patriots countered with a three by Rollins to put them ahead 44-39.  The Warriors continued to chip away until a jump shot by Julian Cameron allowed them to take the lead with just under ten minutes left.  A layup by Hunter Davis allowed Warriors to extend their lead to four points.  Ta'Jay Dunlap made free throws to push the Warriors ahead by ten.  They continued to push ahead with jumpers by Dunlap and Davis.  A jump shot by Tionne Rollins put the Patriots within eight.  The Warriors went on to win the game in a 70-65 final score.
 


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 1 as they host the Lees-McRae Bobcats at 7:30 p.m.  The Warriors will then travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton College Bulldogs at 7 p.m.  They will remain on the road on February 5 as they travel to Mount Olive, NC to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 4 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will return to Central, SC on February 8 to host the King Tornado.
