Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday evening in a 57-46 final score.
The Warriors shot 21.4% from the field in the loss with
Brittany Mack leading the team with 10 points. Both
Shelby Glance and
Kayla Garrett followed with nine points apiece. The Warriors had seven assists with
Tristen Berry leading the team with three. Defensively, the Warriors collected 35 rebounds with
Nakia Hooks leading the team with eight. Southern Wesleyan had 10 steals during the game with both Mack and Berry recording three.

How It Happened
The Lions took an early lead on a layup by Allison Smith and then extended their lead to 4-0 seconds later on a jump shot by Jazmin Allen. Southern Wesleyan was able to get on the board shortly afterwards as
Kayla Garrett made free throws to put them back within two. Emmanuel continued to push ahead on free throw baskets. Free throw baskets by
Nakia Hooks and
Lonesha Lee kept the Warriors within nine of the Lions.
Emmanuel continued push ahead in the second quarter as Jazmin Allen made a jump shot off a pass from Lexi Sengkhammee to take their lead to 16-5. The Warriors challenged back as
Shelby Glance sunk back-to-back three point baskets to put Southern Wesleyan within five of the Lions.
Kayla Garrett made a jump shot to put the Warriors down 13-16 with just over six minutes left in the quarter. Lions pushed further ahead on a jump shot by Maddie Futch, but the Warriors countered on a jump shot by
Sasha Schoenborn. The Lions led 22-16 at the half.
Allison Smith kicked off the third quarter with a jump shot off a pass from Sydney Wyatt to extend the Lions lead to 24-16. Southern Wesleyan countered with a layup off the hands of
Kayla Garrett. A jump shot by
Shelby Glance allowed the Warriors to come within seven and made the score 20-27. Late free throws by
Brittany Mack put the Warriors down ten at the end of the third quarter.
The Lions continued to push ahead in the fourth quarter as Sydney Wyatt and Maddie Futch each made layups to give Emmanuel a 42-27 point lead. Southern Wesleyan would not go down quietly as
Brittany Mack took a pass from
Tristen Berry and stepped beyond the arc to sink a three to put the Warriors down twelve with just over eight minutes left in the game. The Warriors maintained the attack with a three pointer by
Lonesha Lee, but the Lions countered with a three by Allison Smith. Henricks stepped beyond the arc and put the Warriors within seven. However, Emmanuel countered right back on a three point shot by Sydney Wyatt to keep the Lions on top by ten. The Lions went on to win the game in a 57-46 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on January 15 as they travel to Florence, SC to take on the Francis Marion Patriots at 2 p.m. They will then travel to Cullowhee, NC to take on the Western Carolina Catamounts in exhibition play on January 17 at 7 p.m. The Warriors will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 21 as they host the Chowan Hawks at 5:30 p.m. They will remain at home on January 22 and 24 as they host the University of Mount Olive Trojans and UNC Pembroke Braves.
