How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan came out strong in the first half as a free kick allowed
Bryanna Pickens to take a shot on goal early on. However, Trojan goalkeeper Nicole Solicito saved the ball to keep the Warriors from taking an early lead. The Warriors pushed forward with a shot by
Hope Robson, but the Trojans would not let the Warriors attack pay off. Mount Oliver countered as Amanda McLeod passed the ball to her teammate Abigail Crawford who put it into the back of the net to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead. Southern Wesleyan challenged back with a shot on goal by
Cayla Hughes, but once again Solicito thwarted the Warriors attack.
The Warriors maintained a strong offensive in the second half as
Cayla Hughes,
Bryanna Pickens and
Brianna Guinn all took shots on the goal, but the Trojans defensive would not let their attacks pay off. The University of Mount Olive countered with back-to-back shots on goal by Jasmine Pinter and Emily Hein, but
Samantha Benner and the Southern Wesleyan defense would not let the Trojans extend their lead. Mount Olive maintained their attack, scoring their second goal of the day off the foot of Emily Hein. The Warriors were not discouraged as Hughes sent another ball into the net, but Taylor Lewis saved her attack to keep Southern Wesleyan off the board. The Trojans went on to win the game in a 4-0 final score.
