Warriors Drop First Two Games of Series to Crusaders

Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the first two games of the series to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Friday in 4-0 and 14-1 final scores.

Southern Wesleyan had three hits in the first game of the afternoon.  Sawyer Price was hit by a pitch.  Devyn Bond started the first game of the series, pitching a complete game while striking out five batters.

Southern Wesleyan had seven hits in the second game with Josh Galloway leading the team with two.  Chance Fogel was the lone Warrior to walk and DJ Ludwick stole a base.  Sean Sutay was hit by a pitch during the loss.  TJ McEvilly started game two for Southern Wesleyan, pitching 2.1 innings while striking out two.  Jake Wisniewski, Andrew Patterson, Aaron Wimpey and Sutay pitched in relief for the Warriors.  Wisniewski led the team with three strikeouts.

How It Happened

Game One
Belmont Abbey struck first in game one of the series as a sacrifice fly out by Gobbel allowed Overcash to come in and score and put the Crusaders on top 1-0.  They extended their lead in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.  Despite singles by Parker Pillsbury and Josh Galloway, Belmont Abbey continued to push ahead taking a 4-0 lead on a home run by Overcash and win the game.
 
Game Two
The Crusaders struck first in the second game as Ferguson hit a two run home run down the right field line to put Belmont Abbey on top 2-0.

Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the second inning.  Tanner Glass singled through the left side and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  With Glass in scoring position, Josh Galloway singled to shortstop to bring Glass home. 

Belmont Abbey extended their lead in the bottom of the second as they brought three more runs across home plate to put their lead at 5-1.  They pushed their lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third inning.  Belmont Abbey went on to win the second game of the evening 14-1.
 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain at Belmont Abbey on March 6 as they face the Crusaders at 1 and 4 p.m.  They will then travel to Tigerville, SC to take on the North Greenville Crusaders on March 12 and 13 before wrapping up the series on March 16.  The Warriors will then return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on March 19-21.
