Murfreesboro, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Chowan Hawks in a 3-0 final on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors put up 23 kills in the loss to the Hawks.
Olivia Johnson led the team with 10 kills.

How It Happened
Set One
The Hawks took the first point on a kill by Hannah Sladick, but the Warriors countered with a kill by
Olivia Johnson to tie it up. Chowan pushed ahead, but Southern Wesleyan countered to regain the lead with kills by
Danairi Malave and Johnson to put them on top 4-3. The Warriors and Hawks battled back and forth, but then a kill by Kaitie Houston and an ace by Anixa Rosa-Martinez put the Hawks on top 9-7. Chowan continued to push ahead, winning the match in a 25-12 final.
Set Two
Southern Wesleyan took an early lead and then a kill by
Olivia Johnson put the Warriors ahead 3-1. Chowan put up three straight points to allow the Hawks to take the lead, but another kill by Johnson allowed Southern Wesleyan to take a 5-4 point advantage. The Hawks pushed ahead, but the Warriors kept it close with kills by
Ashlyn Holford and
Emily Ellis to put Southern Wesleyan down 9-11. Despite kills by Johnson and Ellis, Chowan maintained the pressure to win the second set 25-18.
Set Three
A kill by Hannah Sladick put the Hawks on top early, but
Emily Ellis took a pass from
Kali Letcher to put down a kill and tie the set. However, the Hawks went on six-point scoring run to put them on top 7-1. The Warriors countered with a kill by Ellis and ace by
Olivia Johnson to put them down four points to Chowan. Chowan maintained the pressure to take a twelve-point lead on a kill by Anamarie Colon-Calero. Kills by Johnson and Ellis put Southern Wesleyan within ten points. However, the Hawks persevered to win 25-14.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Belmont, NC as they take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on March 30 at 7 p.m. They will then return to Central, SC for the last two regular season games as they host the University of Mount Olive on April 1 and Converse Valkyries on April 6.
