Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals to the Chowan Hawks in a 79-75 final on Tuesday evening.
The Warriors shot 50% from the field and went 73.7% from the free throw line in the loss to the Hawks.
Ta'Jay Dunlap led the team with 21 points. He was followed by
Jalen Lowery and
Hunter Davis with 18 points apiece. Dunlap posted six of the 13 assists in the game. Southern Wesleyan had 23 rebounds with Dunlap leading the team with six.
Arusha Hunter and
Demarcus Addie both had blocks in the loss, and Dunlap had two of the three steals.

How It Happened
Chowan took the first points of the game on a layup off a fast break by Jonathan McFall. Southern Wesleyan countered with a three pointer by
Arusha Hunter, but the Hawks regained a two point lead on a three of their own by Tahkey Williams. The Hawks maintained the pressure with baskets by Jaylen Dilliard and Jaedon Willis. However, a three pointer and dunk by
Hunter Davis put the Warriors within one. Chowan would not let up as they maintained a strong defense to block all the Warriors attacks. Despite the Hawks defense,
Ta'Jay Dunlap collected a pass from
Tranard Ferrell to put up a three and put the Warriors down 24-18. Southern Wesleyan would not let up as Dunlap put up two layups to keep them within eight with just under seven minutes left.
Arusha Hunter sunk a three pointer to put the Warriors on top 37-35, but a dunk by McFall allowed the Hawks to tie the game up at the half.
The Hawks kicked off the second half with a layup by McFall, but the Warriors countered with a layup by Davis to keep the game tied up at thirty-nine apiece. Southern Wesleyan pushed ahead on a three pointer by
Jalen Lowery and a dunk by Davis to give the Warriors a five point advantage. Another layup by McFall put Chowan within three, but a layup by Davis kept the Warriors ahead by five with just under seventeen minutes left in the second half. Chowan continued to challenge as they made back-to-back layups to come within three. However, three pointers by Lowery and
Demarcus Addie allowed the Warriors to take a 60-59 point lead. The Hawks regained the lead on a three by Dilliard, but it was short lived as three by Lowery put the Warriors back on top with just under five minutes left. Southern Wesleyan pushed ahead on a layup by Ferrell off a pass from Hunter to take a 72-68 point lead. The Hawks were not done as a layup by Jamal Thomas tied the game up at 72 points each and then a three pointer by Willis put them on top by two. Despite a layup by Lowery, the Hawks went on to win 79-75.
