How It Happened

Belmont Abbey pushed ahead early on with shots by Kevin Daly, Kensly Owens and Tyler Stopford, but Bryson Dodd and Southern Wesleyan's defense stepped up to counter each attack that was thrown their way.  The Warriors put up shots of their own off the feet of Pedro Fonseca, but Ben Knust protected the net for the Crusaders to keep Southern Wesleyan from taking the lead.  The Crusaders picked up the pressure as Davis McBee collected a rebounded shot and put it into the back of the net to give them a 1-0 at the half.

Southern Wesleyan continued their attacks in the second half as Hykeem Martin, Noah Koch and Diego Hernandez each sent shots toward the net.  Ben Knust remained collected to prevent the Warriors from tying the game up.  The Crusaders continued to look to extend their lead with shots by Kensly Owens and Davis McBee, but the Warriors countered every attack thrown their way.  Hykeem Martin collected the ball and passed it up to Diego Hernandez who put it into the back of the net to allow Southern Wesleyan to tie the game 1-1 at the half.

The Warriors charged out of the gate in the first overtime period as Hykeem Martin sent a shot to the top left, but Ben Knust jumped up to collect the ball.  Belmont Abbey countered with an attack of their own, but it was prevented to keep the game tied.

Belmont Abbey took back-to-back corner kicks to kick-off the second overtime period.  A cross by Davis McBee reached the feet of Omar Gonzalez who scored to allow the Crusaders to claim a 2-1 victory.
