Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Bluefield State College Big Blues in a 72-39 final score on Wednesday evening.
Amy Soumare led the Warriors in the loss with 11 points. She was followed by teammate
Sasha Schoenborn with eight points. Soumare led the team with three of the seven assists.
Lonesha Lee had two assists. Lee led the team with four of the seven steals. Southern Wesleyan had 37 rebounds during the game with Soumare leading the team with nine.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took the early lead as
Amy Soumare put up a jump shot in the paint off a pass from
Brooke Henricks to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. However, Bluefield State countered with a layup by Dani Janutolo to tie the game. The Big Blue pushed past the Warriors with back-to-back threes by Ameera McClain and Katrina Davis.
Sasha Schoenborn made a jump shot to put the Warriors down 24-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Southern Wesleyan came to within nineteen points of Bluefield State when Soumare and Schoenborn made layups. However, the Big Blue continued to challenge the Warriors offense as Katrina made a layup, but Schoenborn made a three to keep the Warriors within nineteen.
Bluefield State took the first points of the third quarter as Derricka Bramwell sunk a jump shot off a pass from Katrina Davis.
Halee Morrison made a layup in the paint to put the Warriors down 17-50 to the Big Blue. Despite back-to-back baskets by
Diamond Ellison and Henricks, the Warriors trailed 25-60 at the end of the third quarter.
Treasure Lone sunk a three pointer to kick off the fourth quarter for the Warriors. A three point shot by Henricks allowed the Warriors to come to 31-64 behind the Big Blue. Bluefield State continued to distance themselves as Katrina Davis sunk a three point basket. Despite layups by
Lonesha Lee and
Essence Sims, the Warriors fell in a 72-39 final score.

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Mount Olive, NC to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 4 p.m. They will remain on the road on February 2 as they travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkytires. Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 5 and 6 as they welcome the Chowan Hawks to Central, SC.
