Hunter Banks 20 Points in Loss to Crusaders

Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 73-57 final score on Tuesday evening.
 
The Warriors shot 32.8% from the field.  Arusha Hunter led the team with 20 points during the game.  Hunter was followed by Ta'Jay Dunlap with 15 points and Demarcus Addie with 12.  The Warriors had 10 assists with Dunlap leading the team with four.  Southern Wesleyan had 29 rebounds during the game.  Dunlap led the team with seven, with Jalen Lowery following with four.  Three Warriors had blocks during the game and Dunlap had two of the four steals of the game.

How It Happened
 
Belmont Abbey took the first points of the game on a jump shot by Nate Davis to give them a 2-0 advantage, however the Warriors quartered seconds later as Demarcus Addie stole the ball away and laid it up to tie the game.  The Crusaders took a 6-2 point lead on a jump shot by Chandler Baker.  A 3-pointer by Arusha Hunter allowing them to cut Belmont Abbey's lead in half.  Baskets by Addie and Hunter allowed the Warriors to stay within five points of the Crusaders.  Hunter stole the ball away from the Crusaders and sunk it his third three pointer of the night to put the Warriors down 13-15.  The Warriors continued to push ahead as Brendan Hoban made a jump shot to give them a 21-18 point advantage.  Hunter Davis passed the ball around the Crusaders defense to Edwon Brady, who laid the ball up to put the Warriors ahead by eight.  Belmont Abbey fought back, tying the game at 30 points apiece on a 3-pointer by Sean Halloran with just over three minutes left in the first half of play.  Back-to-back layups by Ta'Jay Dunlap allowed the Warriors to regain the lead at halftime.
 
The Crusaders jumped out early with a basket by Quest Aldridge, but the Warriors quickly countered with a layup by Addie to put Southern Wesleyan back on top.  Belmont Abbey regained the lead, but Southern Wesleyan fought back, coming to three points behind the Crusaders on a layup by Addie.  Dunlap laid the ball up into the basket to put the Warriors down 43-45 to the Crusaders.  Belmont Abbey took a nine point lead on a 3-pointer by Halloran.  Dunlap passed the ball to Hoban.  Hoban laid the ball up to put the Warriors down 53-68.  Despite a late layup by Dunlap, the Warriors fell to the Crusaders in a 73-57 final.
 
 
What's Next
 
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Mount Olive, NC on January 30 to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 6 p.m.  They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 5 and 6 to welcome the Chowan Hawks to Central, SC.
