Crusaders Defeat Southern Wesleyan

Central, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 105-80 final on Saturday afternoon. 

The Warriors shot 43.1% from the field in the loss. Jalen Lowery led the team with 19 points and he was followed by Hunter Davis with 11 and Clenzo Ross with 10. Tranard Ferrell and Ta'Jay Dunlap each had three assists and Dunlap had four steals on the afternoon. Southern Wesleyan collected 28 rebounds with Dunlap boasting seven of the them to lead the team. Solomon Smith had the lone block in the game for the Warriors.

How It Happened

The Warriors jumped out with 4-0 lead after layups from Solomon Smith and Cameron Holmes. Belmont Abbey pulled ahead by one on Romeao Furgeson's layup. Jalen Lowery's 3-pointer would tie the game at 10-10 before the Crusaders would stretch a 16-10 lead out over Southern Wesleyan. The score would tie again several times over the next few minutes and would tie one last time at 26-26 with a pair of free throws from Ta'Jay Dunlap. Clenzo Ross would make a last second layup in the first half, but the Crusaders would lead 36-34 at the half.

DeQuan Abrom would have the first basket of the second half, but Dunlap would counter with a 3-pointer to pull within one, trailing 37-38. The Crusaders would continue to stretch their lead and TJ Harvin would knock down a three-point basket to keep Southern Wesleyan within seven. The Crusaders continued their successful offensive runs as the Warriors struggled to keep up. Lowery would lead the Warriors offensively for the remainder of the game, but Southern Wesleyan was unable to come up with much. Belmont Abbey would hold on to a comfortable lead for the rest of the game and would go on to win, 105-80.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan hosts the Chowan Hawks on February 19 at 7:30 p.m. They will then travel to play the Barton Bulldogs on February 22 at 4 p.m.
