Warriors March Past Saints, 83-63

Central, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan defeated the Limestone Saints in an 83-63 final on Saturday afternoon. 

The Warriors shot 44.4% from the field in the win over Limestone. Ta'Jay Dunlap led the team with 23 points and he was followed by Jalen Lowery with 18 and Solomon Smith with 13. Cameron Holmes led the team with four assists with Smith, Dunlap, Lowery, and Tranard Ferrell each adding three. Holmes also led the team with three of the team's nine steals. Southern Wesleyan had 38 rebounds in the win as Dunlap led with nine and Smith followed with eight.

"I thought we played well for 30 minutes tonight. We really shared the ball and guarded well from the 10 minute mark to first half. Proud of our guys and our fans for their support." 

 

How It Happened

The Warriors would kick off the game with a steal from Clenzo Ross that would lead to a made basket from Solomon Smith to put the Warriors on the board early. Limestone would respond, giving them the go ahead at 6-2. Jalen Lowery's 3-pointer would put the Warriors back on top at 7-6 before the Saints would counter. Each team would trade lead possessions, but Limestone would come out with a 21-17 lead on a dunk from Elijah Lockhart. The Warriors would push with shots from Lowery, Ta'Jay Dunlap, and Hunter Davis. Solomon Smith would come up big with the and-one layup to pick up three points and pull within one. Dunlap's layup late in the first half would allow Southern Wesleyan to hold a 33-32 lead at halftime. 

Out of the halftime break, Cameron Holmes and Dunlap would each knock down a 3-pointer to extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to 39-32. Tranard Ferrell's jump shot would push the Warriors ahead by 12 points. The Warriors would maintain their lead with contributions from TJ Harvin and Lowery as they held onto a 63-52 lead. Southern Wesleyan came up big from the 3-point line and Ross would make a dunk to give the Warriors the remaining momentum in the final minutes. Limestone would get one more basket, but Southern Wesleyan would go on to win the game 83-63.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will hit the road for their game against the Emmanuel College Lions on February 5 at 7:30 p.m. They will remain on the road as they travel to play the Lees-McRae Bobcats on February 12 at 7:30 p.m.
