"We were out played in the second half.  We started the game well and did some good things in the first half, but we did not match the intensity to start the third quarter, which was disappointing."

How It Happened

The Emmanuel College Lions struck first in the contest on Saturday afternoon.  They had an early 5-0 lead before a layup from Breanna Richardson put the Warriors on the board.  A 3-pointer from Kristen Smith and a jumper from Gabrielle Bates put the Warriors within one at 8-7. The Lions put up several shots to lead in the first quarter 15-13.

The Lions jumped out in the third quarter of the game to quickly take a 39-33 lead over Southern Wesleyan.  However, the Warriors would not go down quietly as a three-pointer from Aneysa Williams put the Warriors back within three of the Lions at 39-36.  Shots from Lochlain Corliss and Elise Coberly increased the Lions lead to 47-38. Despite shots from Breanna Richardson, Taylor Vinson, and Brooke Strickland, the Lions remained on top 57-44.

The Lions continued to rally and made the first basket of the final quarter of the games.  Both Aneysa Williams and Breanna Richardson answered for the Warriors bringing the score to 62-48.  Back-to-back layups by MiKayla Trombley gave the Lions a 20-point lead over Southern Wesleyan.  Despite late baskets by Gabrielle Bates, Shawndre' Young and Erika Wesolek, the Lions won the game 75-60.
