SWU Defeats Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas Volleyball

Paige O'Connor and Sarah Hughey combined for 28 kills in a Conference Carolinas win over Lees-McRae.

The Warriors lost the first set in convincing fashion, 25-11, then battled back to take a 2-1 lead as they won 25-22 in consecutive sets.  Lees-McRae won the 4th 25-14 to force a final and deciding fifth set as SWU won 15-8 to take the match.

Hughey posted 17 kills, while O'Connor had 11.  Annika Jones collected 38 assists and Milicia Stamenic grabbed 18 digs in the win.

"This was a big conference road win tonight," stated head coach Julia Reininga.  She added, "I am proud of the girls for working hard and making in match adjustments against a really good Lees-McRae team.  We will now rest up for another huge road contest at King tomorrow."

The third set up in Banner Elk, N.C. proved to be an exciting one as there were ten tie scores and four lead changes.

SWU will play King Friday at 7pm.
