Box Score Tigerville, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan traveled to Tigerville, S.C. tonight and came back home with a conference victory, defeating North Greenville 3-2.
Annika Jones provided 50 assists on the night, her second highest output on the year. Jones recorded 62 assists back on September 3, still a season high for the sophomore transfer.
Sarah Hughey continued her conference leading hitting as she recorded 23 kills and had a .476 average in the tightly contested match. Paige O'Connor added 14 for the Warriors. O'Connor is also in the top five hitting percentage within the conference. Milicia Stamenic picked up 22 digs in the away match and boosted her league leading digs per match.
SWU won the opening set 25-22 before dropping the next two by scores of 25-19 and 25-21, respectively. The Warriors bounced back, winning set four 25-22 and then taking the 5th by a 15-10 score.
"I am so proud of the team and the way we battled tonight," stated head coach Julia Reininga. "We really started playing together and with passion. We will continue to work hard and get better each day."
SWU has now won their last two matches after a four match skid, including two conference losses. The win pushes their overall record to 4-7 and even in the conference at 2-2.
The squad will now travel to Lees-McRae on Thursday for a 7pm conference match.
Mark your calendars for October 8. This will be the first time SWU is back in Historic Tysinger after nine matches on the road.
