Box Score TIGERVILLE, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan shot 39.6 percent from the field in its 71-67 loss to North Greenville.
Chelsie Waters scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and had two assists. Noelle van Zadelhoff scored 18 points and pulled in eight rebounds. Erika Wesolek scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds.
The Warriors (4-22, 1-19 CC) started off the game strong as they outscored the Crusaders (10-15, 8-11 CC) 18-15 in the first quarter. They stretched their lead to 16 points with a 21-8 run in the second quarter. North Greenville rallied in the third quarter to cut the lead to four points as they outscored Southern Wesleyan by 12 points. In the fourth quarter, the Crusaders re-took the lead at the 6:53 mark and stretched their lead to seven points with 4:49 left in the game. The Warriors cut the deficit to one point with a 10-4 run. Waters fouled a Crusaders player with fifteen seconds left and they missed one out of their two free throws. The Warriors had one more chance to tie the game, but turned the ball over with five seconds left. North Greenville made two free throws to seal the win.
"We played one of the best halves of the year from every facet and we went away from that in the second half," said Warriors Head Coach John Davis, "We made the adjustments at halftime and knew what was coming from North Greenville. We just did not execute consistently. I hurt for our team. There is nothing more we can do than to place the responsibility on us and grow from it. That begins and ends with me."
Southern Wesleyan next travels to Converse for a 7 p.m. contest.
